I think Dubas was counting on the Barrie that was playing under Keefe, not under Babcock. If we got that for an entire year, people would be saying different things (he would have finished with something like 55-60 points based on what he was pacing under Keefe), and I think Dubas somewhat hinted at that with his "we did not do a good job accommodating him when he first arrived" comment.

I think the other thing people need to realize is that the market for Kadri may not have been as great as people expected. We know Brodie and we know of Barrie, but it is not like it is known we turned down a deal for Pesce or something. Maybe Barrie or Brodie was the best defenseman Kadri was going to get unless we just took pure futures, and let's also not forget that Kerfoot does have a fair amount of value himself right now. A mid-20's 3C who can play a solid two-way game has a good amount of value.

One thing we do likely know is that if Kadri had another year like 2018-2019, he would not have even been able to return what he did. Maybe it was selling low for a little bit last year, and it would have been better to sell him right after we got Tavares, but it was also a lot harder to justify it and we would be selling even lower this year.

All-in-all, I laughed when Hayes said it may be one of the worst trades in Leafs history. It doesn't surprise me, because of what he says and who he pretends to be, but I still laughed.

So why was Barrie demoted to the bottom pair under Keefe?

Also uh, Captain Horvat is treally killing in the playoffs. He scored a highlight reel goal shorthanded (again) for the vanucks. Mayne he one tough monkey and loves this game  I'm bout that. We need exactly players like these two warriors. Mayne the work, twerk and twerk hard. Still party, WHAT!!!!!

Man the Canucks rebuild has really started kicking it into gear. They have their elite young players and have a solid list of veteran supporting pieces to help them out. They're up 2-1 on the cup champs and could be up 2-0 in round 1. Crazy despite their poor UFA signings they're having a lot of succsess these playoffs

Horvat is playing great as well. I think the Canucks are a team on the rise. Odd to see Montreal & Vancouver doing well (at least so far). Montreal really dominated their game against the Flyers today.

I'm more skeptical on mtl considering their positioning prior to the breaks but they are playing inspiring hockey at the right time led by their goalie and their young players like domi/JK/Suzuki etc. The Canucks look like Canada's best team imo rn with the flames being odd shots to beat the stars and he flyers probably figuring out price and the habs sooner than later.

Showing a lot of heart, and guts.

They don't play pond hockey, they just work real hard.

”the harder I work, the luckier I get.”

Arnold Palmer............
Did they work hard to have a global pandemic change the rules so they could play in the playoffs?

They're doing well with their opportunity, but let's not pretend this is the model we want to follow or they would have even had a sniff at the playoffs in a normal finish

Ya, ditto for me about Montreal, but I think they are liking the underdog role & could give Philly a good run. Weber, Chiarot & Petry don't get much love but are playing pretty well.

Idk, but we've already seen Carolina and CBJ go past us, & I wonder which teams are next - Vancouver likely & even Montreal is one to watch a little closer.

Wow Faulk is totally useless defensively. Dubas is kicking himself for not acquiring him last offseason.

Dubas did aquire him just the western version Tyson Barrie. Barrie was pretty useless offensively as.well despite the inflated point production getting free secondaries on the pp. Hopefully dubas stats away from these sort of defenseman in the offseason (no to krug, schultz, shattenkirk)

I really like their team, have for a few years now. And I can root for them no problem because I've had the luxury of never meeting a Canucks fan in my life. To me, having grown up in the States, it's absolutely bizarre reading how much hate they have for Toronto. But entertaining

Who would have thought the Canucks would be contending while still rebuilding before the Leafs could even win a round in the playoffs.

Thanks again Dub-ass

So why was Barrie demoted to the bottom pair under Keefe?

He averaged 19:30 minutes of ice time per game despite only playing 8 minutes in the 5th game due to an injury. During the regular season, he was averaging well over 21 minutes.

Hardly someone who looks like he has been demoted to the bottom pairing by his head coach.

He is still not what the Leafs need on defense, but he was great once he got away from Babcock and would have likely changed perception if he was away from him for the entire year rather than 2/3's of it.
