Those rules are the same for everyone. Feel free to draft as well as they have, sign their top players to deals they have, make the TDL deals they have...

As opposed to waiting to give it to them when they are 30 or older and it not killing their drive?
Unpopular opinion time:

Make entry level contracts five years long for amateur players instead of three. Three for NCAA UFA's that played four years and overseas UFA's under 26. The rest can be signed to whatever contract length and term as desired.

Get rid of RFA's and offer sheets in the next CBA. A player can be a free agent at age 23 potentially after the five year ELC is up, but they can only be signed to three year contracts maximum if they don't re-sign with the team that drafted them, making them a free agent again at age 26 or less. If a player extends at that time with the team that drafted them, they can sign up for up to 8 years as they can now. They're free agents upon completion of their second contract no matter what, whether it's a one or eight year deal.

This can add a potential exciting dynamic around the league in which players can hit free agency at a younger age and motivates teams to contend and not tank after drafting a really good 18 year old, because if they don't get their act together in 5 years, they can lose them for nothing. Imagine a player like McDavid hitting free agency at 24?

This ESPN intermission show is cringeworthy. What the hell happened to Barry Melrose?

I hope Messier & Chelios don't spend the season strolling down memory lane. Yikes.
Yeah seriously. He looked ok in that Zamboni promo. Post-processing vs real live?

Messier kept looking down at the desk every few seconds while he was speaking, must have been reading his notes. I'd give them time to work things out. It's cool seeing Steve Levy and Barry Melrose doing hockey on ESPN again.

EDIT: My bad, Messier has nothing in front of him to look at, I guess it's just a habit of his

Haha, the Lightning can’t do jack unless they circumvent the cap! Still a long way to go but love watching the Tampa Bay team up against the cap losing against the Penguins preseason roster without Crosby, Malkin, and Guentzel.

And this is the team that so many so called experts think is the favorite to win the Cup again.

Tampa has a long way to come back from the loss of their entire Gourde Coleman Goodrow situation

Can't believe the Islanders kept losing to this team and paving the way for them to the Cup Finals.

Well they aren’t holding out one of their best players right now to get under the cap and squeeze in 3 additional players, so there’s that.

I see you haven't let that go yet.

Why would I when this team cheated and won the ultimate prize? If they cheated and fell flat in the playoffs that’s one thing, but they won the friggin Cup by deliberately cheating. Why don’t more people understand that???

I’m surprised Tampa Bay hasn’t faked a long term injury by now so they can acquire Jack Eichel, Evander Kane, and Brady Tkachuk to finish this game.

It would get my vote
