I know it's a pandemic this time and not a work stoppage but I've seen enough shortened/suspended/canceled seasons for my lifetime. Really tired of this.

If I can choose between:

A. Shortened season and a normal season in October, or
B. Full season and a delayed 2021-22 season

I pick option A any time.

people need to keep in mind that deferred $$ will get paid later. who knows how many games they will play...but odds are the players will be given the following options 1) defer $$ which means less $$ this year but you'll be made whole down the road. 2) prorated salary for the # of games played, which means you lose that $$ and never see it again. or 3) cancel the season and get 0% of the salary

the initial reaction will be F that but it might be the least bad option....the NHLPA should be on the phone with bobby bonilla's agent lol.

Yeah. deferring sounds very reasonable. I would have expected pro-rating.

Yes, I'm almost always on the side of the players but this isn't a terrible option. They have already agreed to a 10% deferral in the CBA which is paid back over several years, unfortunately without interest. Will they take another 13%, making it a total of 23% deferred? I think they negotiate and drive that number down another 3-5%. The reality is, if they do a 48-60 game schedule like Brooks mentioned, then you're missing between 27-42% of the schedule, without even factoring in the huge revenue loss from lack of gates and whatever adjustments are made to the existing sponsorship and TV deals. There are apparently some teams that believe they'd lose less money by not playing, so if you want to convince those teams, the players do have to make a significant concession (not that 10% deferred isn't already significant, but much more if the season is truncated that much). And, as has been said, a deferral, even without interest, is better than a proration.

The speed and relative ease with which the players and owners reached the return to play agreement while also negotiating a new CBA makes me optimistic that there is still enough goodwill to go around to get this done. I think both sides (generally) want to make it happen.

This seems like something everyone can agree on (whether these numbers stock or not we will see). It's better for the players to not take the year off, even if they make 50% of their salaries. Same goes for the owners.

"How Julien Gauthier went from workout warrior to ascendant New York Rangers winger

Even before Julien Gauthier got to the NHL, he was a fascination to many NHL teams. "Every year at the scouting combine, there are players everyone is curious about," said one NHL team exec. "In 2016, one of those guys was certainly Julien Gauthier. He was a late birthday and already played for Canada at World Juniors and three years in the [QMJHL], so he's a guy we had seen a lot of. But what stood out was his unique background." How Julien Gauthier went from workout warrior to ascendant Rangers winger

Hopefully he can take that open spot on the 3rd line RW and possibly net front on pp2.

If i was players i would negotiate and say that if u want 23% deferred, then we need 2% interest to be paid out on deferred money that is NOT counted as part of the 50% revenue split

Not a good look for showing up at the start of practice when it was scheduled for rather than being 10-15 minutes early? I think they will be just fine. The coach fist bumped them on the way out.

Edit:

Again I think they are just fine

Yeah, I mean their careers are not over.
