Finally some news, and Jan 1st is earlier than I thought they would start, sweet.
Just spitballing here, but the most likely idea sounds like early-mid December TC starts, Jan 1st season begins with 2 Weeks in a hub city, followed by 1 week off to fly home, rinse and repeat, with testing throughout the process of course. So 8 games in 14 days per Hub? Maybe 7 sets of these 3 week blocks =5 months approximately to play 56 games. Playoffs would start some time towards the beginning of June, or earlier if they play 50 games instead of 56.
The amount of Hub cities and teams per Hub factors in as well.

Nothing official but I read elsewhere that they’re still aiming for around that date I believe

I know it's Fox Sports but that's just the first thing that came up. Several reports in the past few days have mentioned the NHL is still optimistically targeting Jan 1.

It's weird when you see those shortened seasons out there --- it almost feels like they don't count (lockouts, pandemics, etc.).

What's the threshold for the RSN tv contracts though? 70? Wasn't that a huge deal in discussions, making sure they meet that?

I get the sense that not everyone is oppossed to touching on the summer, along with the understanding that the 2021-22 season may be slightly modified (82 game schule, but slightly pushed back start and end dates).
Now what ends up in the final product is anyone's guess. But I think 72 was the "shoot for" number.

72 game schedule beginning in early January would mean the start of the season would be pushed back by about 11 weeks. 10 less games gets back 3 weeks. No all-star game and a somewhat condensed schedule could net you 2-3 more weeks. So it would finish 5 weeks or so later than normal. They phase that in over the next two offseasons if things return to normal.

True....but with Covid #'s increasing daily we likely will be lucky to see a 40 + game schedule for a regular season if we actually see a season at all . I honestly don't think a season will happen....looking like the 2nd wave of Covid is a lot worse than the first going by the amount of new cases ...unless you are in China where there are hardly any outbreaks LOL....

I read in the enforcer group that Haley signed with Ottawa . I don't have a link. Tough guys always find a home it seems....EDIT. Ottawa Senators sign forward Nick Haley to one-year, two-way deal - TSN.ca
NBC will have a major role in how long the season is. NBC owns the summer Olympic rights and I highly doubt they would want the NHL overlapping with the Summer games. I believe the Olympics start July 22nd...

Why put on actual clothes for public and pay to drink while you see your ex with her new hubby when you can stay home in your pajamas and drink for free while you inevitably end up visualizing your ex with her new hubby anyway.
