no doubt there is luck and also good fortune that another team didn't grab him. but they seem to do it too often for it to just be purely dumb luck. obviously if their scouts knew for sure they would have taken him sooner, but they must be focusing on something later in the drafts that helps them see late bloomers...

but ultimately on top of the luck, I think hitting it big on mid to late round picks comes down to player development more than anything...if these guys were the players they became at draft day they would have been 1st round picks. so what is tampa doing differently AFTER drafting these players? point specifically might just be luck, but when it happens over and over they are probably doing something that other teams should try copying

Varlamov took that off the cheek. Been there many times it’s instinct to turn your head there. Problem is your mask has like a quarter inch thick pad there. Sucks. But he’ll be fine.

The Isles are a good team and well coached but they aren't good enough to win a cup. They had good match-ups for them with Florida, Washington and Philly. I have always felt they would not be able to beat either Tampa or Boston in a series. They are just at another level and playing with a purpose.

Lou gave an AHL goon a 4 year deal $1M AAV. You’ve already went over a bunch, but some of their contracts are simply terrible.
 
This is truly embarassing at this point. I hope and pray the Islanders don't start targeting Point or Kucherov.

Matter of fact now that I think about if I'm Cooper, Point and Kuch don't play another minute. Game is over and you know Islanders are going to pull some shit. Keep Kuch and Point stapled to the bench is the smart thing too do.
