The NHL relies on the gate at arenas for most of thier revenue. The NBA has much richer TV deals than the NHL and they have all but confirmed that they won’t play until the New Year and hope to have some sort of crowd attendance next season. I would be surprised if the NHL plays again at all in 2020 after the cup is raised.

I think we can see fans attend at limited capacity by end of year. Nov/Dec. It would suck to wait till 2021 to see some Rangers hockey again.

I want Rangers hockey ASAP too. I want to see our Laf and the new and improved Kaako and all of other elite prospects. Winter time is when viruses spread most easily. I simply don’t see thousands of people allowed to gather indoors in NYC anytime soon. Reduced crowds means reduced revenue for seats and concessions. Hoping for the best but also preparing myself for hockey to be pushed to the new year. A vaccine could change things. We shall see.

Pretty sure I just read somewhere Bettman said camps will be opening up by mid October. No idea where you got this new year shot.


And the NHL does not care about NYC. If they need to play elsewhere they will.

How is this remotely possible? It's 09/26 and season isn't even over yet and draft isn't until Oct 6th. I heard season may not start until 2021.

Bettman said at a press conference the other day that the odds of starting Sometime around December 1st are getting lower and lower. That it's not absolutely not going to happen, but it's not nearly as certain as it was before. The smart money is on game starting after New year's.

they haven't even finalized the plan on what exactly they're going to do for a season yet, how would they start it up in the time frames being mentioned here.

I'm glad the league came back but awarding the Stanley Cup in late September just feels weird. I'm used to this being "how'd the young guys look in preseason?" time.

Teams will be able to make their facilities available to their players in mid october.

Camps won't start until they know when the season will start.

The crowd noise is so odd it’s like I’ve gotten water washing around in my ear.
 
Does anyone know how they are measuring the shot speeds that they show on the screen?
I imagine it would be very hard to get a read with a speed gun based on how many obstacles there are between the gun and the player shooting.

This post-season, they are testing some new tracking stuff with chips embedded in player's jerseys and the game pucks.

With the puck and player position data, you can easily calculate puck speed and whatnot.

I don’t want TB to win but I’m not confident Dallas is talented enough to stop them, especially with Seguin and Benn so MIA
 
weird how Eddie mentions that Maroon and Coleman (dk about Goodrow) are not sexy analytical players when both of them very much are lol
 
As much as the Stars were probably over matched from the get go, this series really feels like they just laid a giant egg despite significantly better potential. There were stretches in each game where Dallas absolutely dominated. About one 10 minute stretch per game. They really just... had a massively inconsistent playoffs and chose the worst series to be totally flat in.

They have no business winning a cup, especially with Khudobin in net.
