It makes way more sense than getting a center.

Clearly they are going to be feeding Chytil those 2C minutes at this point. We clearly lack wing depth at the NHL level. Ideally Fast is on the 4th line. Ideally Haley isn't playing, or Smith for that matter. Lemieux is slotted into a spot he may not be able to excel in. Maybe Strome moving to wing helps this a little.

Once Kreider goes, that winger depth is getting significantly worse with no immediate replacement to move up the lineup, unless a young center moves to the wing.

I’d like to explore Skjei and Ehlers as principles in a deal. I’m sure we add, but I’m not sure how much. I think Skjei is regarded highly. He’s locked up with term, young and Winnipeg’s D is a mess while they have a pretty loaded offense.

I know everyone was complaining about the Rangers overplaying their hand with Hayes/Zuccarello last year, but man does it feel like they’re doing that with Kreider right now
The amount of 1st round picks and blue chip prospects the Rangers have missed out on is limited only by everyone's imagination.

I’m hoping to see a greater variety on the wings as we move forward. We have finesse, but I’d like to see more of a straight ahead style that compliments what we have. Not particularly sure someone like Jost fits that need, but he’s definitely a person of interest for the Rangers.

Interestingly enough, I’ve heard a few times, from multiple people going back a little ways, that the decision to give him that contract was not unanimous and continues to be a tension point there.

I continue to find that interesting.
When Barroway owned the Coyotes, Tocchet was his hire. Philadelphia guys. Chayka and Tocchet seem to get along but he was never Chayka’s guy. The guy who is joined at the hip with Chayka is Aron Cohen, the team president. Cohen has been very supportive of Chayka tying up most of the roster with long term contracts. All now work for Meruillo, a new owner who knows nothing about hockey. Chayka has the juice now and I expect he will continue to exert it. Some of the guys who left town (Domi, Duclair) simply didn’t get along with Tocchet.

Seeing as the one guy in the pool that is relatively close that plays like that is Barron, that's something they'll have to trade for.

Lemieux was a nice start to getting that. Is that a priority in what they are looking for?

I agree Jost and guys like Puljujarvi aren't of that mold. While a smaller player, someone like Fabbri plays that style and I could see him being a piece St. Louis would part with in a potential Kreider rental trade.

not sure if this was posted last night...but you thought our defensive coverage was bad. Blues scored in OT on a 3 on 0 breakaway

Barron is very much a kid I could fitting that mold, albeit in more of a middle/bottom six mold. I’d like to see if they can find someone who brings those capabilities, but with a little more upside. Not necessarily star-level upside, but more comfortably projectile into a second line role.

Fabbri has been terrible and can't do anything. Lost confidence in getting hit. Total donut.
