Aside from one season (where overall it was quite comparable) Subban has been a far better player than Trouba. I think it’s more outlandish to claim Trouba is a better player than Subban.

I like the start Trouba has had though. It certainly makes the discussion more interesting.
Well, it was who was a better addition to two rebuilding teams, not who the better player is. For a team in a rebuild I'd take Trouba over Subban every day of the week.

Also, we're not talking about the better player for the last 3 years, it's right now. Subban showed signs of slowing down in Nashville. The wear and tear of all the games played adds up.

Trouba has been on a team with other RHD that eat time and he's probably fresher than most players his caliber. Subban was carrying the load in MTL and he had Ellis in Nashville. Trouba has had Buff and Myers with him for a while to eat minutes.

EDM has gotten off to a good start this year. McDavid and Draisaitl have continued to be lights out. Draisaitl had 50 goals and a 105 pts last year. And they added James Neal to their roster, who promptly scored 4 goals against the Icelanders last game. Tonight they play the Debs, so come Saturday we will play a 4-0 team.

Best lines in hockey at this early juncture of season so far and I fortunately have a piece of all of them except the Rangers dammit on my keeper $$ league team...Larkin, MacKinnon, Pastrnk and Point....not too shabby

Detroit's Larkin, Mantha and Bertuzzi

Rangers Panarin, Zibs and Buchie

Avalanche's MacKinnon, Rantaanen and Landeskog

Bruins Marchand, Bergeron and Pasternk

Point comes back tonight....Stamkos, Point and Kucherov

Am I missing any?

EDM will be 4-0 by the time we play them on Saturday. They play the Debs tonight. EDM picked up James Neal this off season and he scored 4 goals on the Island last game. Should be a good test for us come Saturday vs McDavid and co.

No lock the Oilers come into MSG undefeated as unless I'm totally missreading them, I have to believe the Debbies are going to play their best game of the year tonight and will try and stop the bleeding.

Sure the Oilers have played pretty good but beating the 'Nucks, Kings and Philes isn't exactly a murderers row. I think we'll see the Debs at their best tonight and I'd be shocked if they don't win frankly....we'll see.

For sure I'd take Trouba over PK in a "build" or "rebuild". Trouba has never been THE man other than a couple of short spurts when Buff was injured. He never really played #1 PP minutes either seeing for most of his career, Buff has been around as well as Tobias Enstrom(remember him?...hah) who when he was there, was always being given the #1 PP minutes as well.

This if first year Trouba has the #1 gig for his lonesome and I had no doubt when we got him and watching him so far, that he'd run with it and be the best all around Dman we've had since probably McDonagh when he was in his "prime".

It helps as well that Trouba is 25 and PK is 30. So yeah no doubt I'd take Trouba over PK in a rebuild and in a "any build"...lol

At their best? Off of what? They look horrible. And EDM has looked really good. Two come from behind wins in the 3rd period and a blow out on the Island. It would be a major shocker if this game is even close.

Yeah, this "bye" week is torture. Reminds me the European soccer leagues that start in late August and then after 1 or 2 fixtures they're hit with the international break. But at least then its all teams. It sucks having to watch everyone else play 3-4-5 games while we play only 2. Fun fact, tonight Chicago plays their 2nd game of the season lmao.

Maybe it's cause I'm 50 + years old and have likely seen live or on TV thousands of games in all of the 4 major sports where when a team is taken for dead as the Debbie are and they are playing at their own barn vs a team that is not used to winning as is the Oilers, the team that's been left for dead rises like the Phoenix and sleighs the new kid on the block.

I'm playing around but in all seriousness, I have seen it tons of times where a team playing as badly as the Devils have so far in 2 1/3 of their 3 games have a come to jesus with each other and play inspired hockey in front of their home fans. And it's not like the Oilers have done jack shit. Yes they've won the first 3 games of the year. They need to do a lot more winning for me and beating some good teams before I start to think they are for real.

So yes, I'd be shocked if the Debs lose tonight. Matter of fact, I think they win comfortably too...as in 5-2 type of comfy. And I do believe we will see their savior score his first NHL goal as well.

We'll see...hope I'm wrong and Devils lose again but I doubt it highly....Devils will be coming out storming tonight...guaranteed.

Either way no matter what happens, I'll be here to take the verbal abuse for being wrong and I'll be here to gloat and say I told ya so if I'm right....lol.

Totally abominable this schedule we have. Never have seen it this bad. I remember maybe 5 years ago was it when we played our first 9-10 games I belive on the road and the road trip started in Sweden? I may be wrong but that was the last time I recall being as aggravated about the Rangers schedule as I am now.

I haven't looked really close at our schedule as I've just glanced it over but I'd have to assume we are going to play the most or close to it of any team as far as back to back games this season. If this is the case which I suspect it is, this will make the continued emergence of Georgie being that much more critical to the success of this hockey club and that both goalies are going to be playing alot as it's likely going to be a time share 50/50 rather than either of them playing alot more than one another.

On another thread I expressed the opinion that I'd like Georgie to play more than Hank this year but the way the schedule looks like it's going to be with a lot of back to backs and 3 games in 4 nights....a time share is probably going to be the way Quinn goes...we'll see soon enough.

Have I mentioned how piss poor this schedule is and that it sucks? Oh yeah...I have...my bad...lol

Personally, the most punchable player in the league is ... more than Crosby.... more than Gallagher... more than Marchand.... is Alex Killorn.

One rough season does not mean he’s worse than a guy he’s better far superior to for the previous 5.

I guess in the context of a rebuilding team it’s up in the air, because Subban is older, but he is a flat out better defenseman. It’s ok for the Devils to have superior players sometimes.

Trouba has had a nice 2 games to start his NYR career, but the fact that some people on this board thought we got a #1 defenseman at the time of the trade shows how unknowledgeable some posters are. Subban has proven for many years now that he is a big time player. His likability is clouding the judgement of some people.

5 goals already in the Tor-TB game. Do not take penalties against either of these teams holy cow.

I like Subban but he’s about at that age where D-men may go through a decline. Maybe last year was an aberration, maybe it wasn’t.
I heard some one talking about Subban recently and they said they’ve noticed he’s been dumping the puck out of the zone rather than skating or making a pass more and more the past few seasons

Make that 6 goals

Matthews has more goals than 5 NHL teams do.

Edit: 7 now. 4-3 TB

He just missed most of the first period this game. They didn't give a report yet but he is at the age where the injury bug starts to bite.

Devils' PK sucks plus they have the 31st penalty kill in the league.

The only guys on that team who signed through 2021-22 are Hughes, Boqvist, Wood, Zacha, Subban, Severson, Butcher, and Schneider. They have so many UFAs coming up.
