Sheep? I've hated that guy almost as much as I hated Marchand. Embellishing dirty players all look the same to me regardless of who they play for or who they've played for.

You really don’t know the player if you compare him to Brad Marchand. Well I have enjoyed watching him play here and in Tampa, and upset it’s coming to an end.

I am sad to hear about Callahan. That kid absolutely worked his ass off for everything he had in this sport and put a ton of miles on a frame that played 4 inches and 40 pounds bigger than it was.

You aren't rooting for his degenerative disc disease because we traded him, not saddling ourselves with his contract , during the year we went to the finals?

You have gotten soft @Edge Maybe you need to be sharpened a bit?

People been saying for years that Callahan is broken and will be done sooner than later. That’s why most of us didn’t want to resign him, we knew he was breaking down, from wear and tear and injuries, that he was damaged goods. When he's actually diagnosed, with something that we all knew since long, that he’s broken, people thinks he’s cheating? I get the Hossa bs, but in this case it’s quite obvious not the case. Pay respekt to someone who gave his all for us.

Those Rangers who played through the Tortorella years took a beating. I liked Callahan but I never really got to love. I'd acknowledge the grit though. Still remember him blocking that Chara shot that broke his leg but got us into the playoffs. His time in New York didn't end great--a dispute over money but hey almost every player does that at least once. He's broken down even in Tampa. I didn't see his career lasting much longer. Hopefully he'll be able to live a normal retirement.

I'm not thinking Callahan is trying to pull one. One wonders about Tampa though--this is very convenient for them.

It sure isn't convenient for Callahan.

No it's not and I can emphathize--I'm dealing with a lower back issue right now myself that we're going to try PT/medication on and potentially is some kind of surgery down the line. It ain't fun because you're not able to do shit you're used to doing without paying for it afterwards and for me I can only sleep 3/4/5 hours a night before this thing gets me up. No doubt Ryan's issue is a bit more serious than mine. It's not unusual for hockey players. Adam Graves had big issues before he retired. Derek Dorsett retired a couple years ago mid-season because his doctors were worrying about paralysis.

Back issues are no joke, especially with the way Callahan played for so many years. Hopefully his quality of life can be improved because having that much pain in your mid-30s has to be really tough.

This is why you go for the money. You just never know when you're done.

Most of us don't suddenly lose the ability to be accountants, or lawyers, or executives, or electricians, or cooks rapidly.

A player can watch his entire career end rapidly. They're going to push for as much as they can, when they can, or at least find a balance they are content with.

I don't begrudge any player who "jilts" us by leaving for more money. As others have posted elsewhere, they have themselves and their families to look after with their financial security. A guy like Callahan never took a shift off, never "controller disconnected" while wearing the sweater. It's a free market. Good for him to cash in on a team who was willing to pay. It's been said so much that it's a cliche: It's business, nothing personal.

Most hockey players are not geniuses who have a side hustle and can go run a business, be a successful entrepreneur, or be an investment banker when they're done playing. They've invested their entire lives into playing pro sport and they're going to max out their ROI while they're physically able to.

Wow...Cally is/was a dirty player?....That's a new one.

At least Cally got paid and he and his family should be set up for life. He earned that. Kid was all hustle and basically made the league on his own accord

Cally to many rangers fans is the definition of 'you either die young or live long enough to become the villain' lol
