the dislike for Callahan after the trade was pretty sad tbh

like I wasn't that sad to see him go and didn't want him back but there was quite a vendetta against him because of the contract he wanted.

FWIW there was a lot of anger directed towards Girardi and later on towards Staal. It was a good team we had back then but it wasn't good enough is what it came down to. These guys though were all key players for both Renney and Tortorella but Torts shaped them in a certain way to sacrifice their bodies for the good of the team and those sacrifices had an ill effect on all of them.

I love what Cally gave us and have no ill will towards him at all. I know he has to be suffering from various issues having played the way he did his whole career. He was a warrior.

I also truly believe he wouldn't choose to go out like this.

But I also see just how magically convenient timing it for the TBL to have an injury severe enough to be on LTIR with no cap hit when they risk losing people to cap.

It's one thing to say he has a recurring back problem that may have affected recent play and could certainly affect play moving forward, enough so that he'd prefer to quit now than aggravate it. It's another entirely to say it's 100% career-ending, which nets the LTIR cap savings and there's a thin line between them. Teams take advantage of this. We'll never know. All my respect to Cally and hopefully a healthy future in the NHL or as an analyst etc. But I can still truly believe that and like the guy all while realizing just how good timing it is for the TBL as they look to next season and fielding an all-star team to give it another go after this year's embarrassment. There's one nice chunk of cash freed up.

Reactions: Wicked Backhand
Subban is a locker room cancer. That's why Montreal traded him. How long before he starts fighting his own teammates in New Jersey the same way he did in Montreal? Much rather have Trouba.

between callahan and trading jt miller that probably resolved tb's cap issues

Gonna be fun playing the Devils, Kakko vs Hughes will add to the rivalry, the Subban trade as well, hate him or like him, he sure stirs up feelings and will make the games more interesting. Great trade by Debbies.
