Oh wow the caps captain is going to win the heart big deal . There gonna be out in the first round if not second round . They never done any damage when the playoffs pick up. With ovy, backstroke and semin ...

Jagr is also a different player , he played in an era that molded the type of player that he is . I have a lot of respect for that man . Along with gabby playing with a separated shoulder in the playoffs . But at the end of the day we got back 3 Canadian boys for a soft Czech. And to be honest I would make that trade any day going into the playoffs .

Btw you point to stralman as stepping his game up in staals absent . But how would this defensive corp look with all European defense man ? I'm not saying I don't want any Europeans on my hockey team I'm just saying I would prefer Canadian / North American players as the majority especially in the playoffs

Oh and btw I'm Swedish and Italian just in case anyone is wondering

You're acting as if some other worldly force causes a massive discrepancy between European and North American players.

Saying you can't win with Europeans is just absurd. Just look at last year's awards. The Hart, Norris, Calder and Vezina were all given to Europeans.

Again you are pointing to individual awards . How many European captains have won the cup ? 1 or 2?

Bottom line , give me three Canadian boys over gabby any day of the week going into playoffs .... They can have his 40 goal seasons every other year lol

Well no **** that European Captains aren't going win as many Cups because a majority of the ****ing league is North American. Hell, there are only 7 European Captains in the NHL right now.

I shouldn't even continue this argument because of its absurdity. Henrik Lundqvist should dispel any of this "soft euro we cant win with them" crap considering that we watch him play every other day. Apparently, that's not the case.

Not every European plays like Gaborik.

Yup. Crazy how the best defensive forward of the last decade holds the name Pavel.

Goalie is a whole different argument because that is a single position . Lundqvist doesn't have line mates or a defensive partner . He only worries about keeping the pick out the net .

Btw 7 captains would equate to about 24% that's a high percentage

Btw you think there is a reason why there aren't that many of them captain ?

Oh and best "defensive forward " yeah I think he won an award for that. But how did his team do in the playoffs last season ?

I don't know the numbers offhand, but I bet if you looked at demographics, the percentage of captains who are European isn't too different from the percentage of NHL players that are European.

Mats Sundin was one of the great Captains of the last 20 years.

There are less Europeans on average. In alot of instances they may not get the chance because of established Vets already captaining many teams. But also, there is a bias there, mainly from the guys still running teams that have been around since before the cold war ended.

Let Ottawa take 6 and run into the buzz saw that is the hottest team in the league right now.

My mistake. There are actually 8 European Captains out of 26 which would be 31%. That does seem high until you use simple math and realize that the other 69% are North American.

Yeah, Pavel "won an award for that". Three consecutive times actually and our team comprised of Good ol Canadian and American boys didn't win **** either. Though, you know what Datsyuk does have?

Also he was Captained by this guy

And the Playoff MVP was this chump.

Wow you found the one of three pics of non North American players that have won the MVP in the playoffs ...

And you also found one of maybe two European captains that won the cup .

Would you like me to post all the North American / Canadian captains that won the cup ? I think my post would be longer

Btw chara and lidstrom are the only two captains. To win the cup ... Chara entire team is North American when they won

No **** because there are more of them and most Europeans are absent for a huge portion in the history of the NHL.

I'm done with this "debate". Your nonsensical drivel only serves to further push the notion that those who attach the "soft" stigma to Europeans actually have no idea what they are talking about.

Classic, stereotypical New Yorker. I hate that city.

Bottom line give me Canadians / North Americans over European players in the playoffs .

They can take the awards and stick it up their ass for regular season stats

Would it be crazy to think the last time Staal played for the Rangers was that night in early March when he got hit by the puck in the eye? We don't know if he will play in the playoffs. The Rangers need to find out what Marc is planning in two years. Does he wanted to be here or not. The speculation with Carolina will only increase next season. Staal has two years left on his contract. The Rangers can't compete with Staal wanting to play with his brothers and family reasons.

Stereotypical ? Ovy said he would leave the NHL if they won't let him play for his country .... Do u hear any Canadians saying that about the Olympics ? They play for the cup . Not for the flag on their jersey.

It wouldn't matter to me if they were black orange pink square round gay straight strong weak etc...

I would take the guys that grew up wanting to win the cup rather than the other guys

esp their top scorer, David Krejci and their best defender in the POs, Seidenberg. And that Tuukka guy who played long parts of the season. Good ol' North American boys. Get a clue.
