Dude, plenty of athletes have come back from worse injuries. He will be fine long term.

The problem is that he is going to miss the rest of the season from the absolutely carless/intentional actions of a POS.
 
If it was any other player, I'd write it off as a freak accident. Since it's Cooke, you really have to wonder...
 
It wasn't even careless, **** like that happens all the time in every game. It was a freak accident
 
What's the timeline if it's a complete tear ?

8-10 months and then training ?

Oh please. "Freak accident". How convenient that A-its Cooke, B-his foot 'just happens to stomp on the back of a player's leg who is in a vulnerable position'.

It was intentional. Blatant.

I'm sick and tired of this excuse for and from guys who have spent their entire lives dedicated to playing ice hockey, that "they didn't know where they were on the ice (Chara) or didn't know that stomping on a leg would injure someone".

He knew exactly what he was doing.

Its Cooke. Where there's smoke there's fire. Plain and simple.
 
9 out of 10 will say its a freak accident but I think it might have been some harm intended. Not to the extent of the AH tear but some. Some "freak accident" to it as well but I have a hard time believing that it was a spot where he had no awareness of where his skate was going to land.
 
Totally intentional - and not saying he knew where Karlson's achilles was, but the guy did deliberately stomp his skate to the back of Karlson's leg. Awful and certainly suspension worthy.

Looks like a slewfoot gone wrong.


But then again he swung his leg at Osgood few years ago. That looked really bad.
 
It's so discrete it's hard to really make accusations, but the way he rides the skate in on EK before they reach the boards and them steps right in to his leg, I can see this being premeditated. It's very subtle and I honestly doubt anything comes of it. I can understand why no one wants to give Cooke the benefit of the doubt here, and especially if Ottawa players think there was intent to injure, then they will find a way to pay the Pens back.
 
You'd hate to see something happen to Crosby because of what Cooke did.

I think its both to be honest.

I definitely don't think Cooke tried to seriously injure Karlsson, but a player like Cooke is always trying to get to a player like Karlsson. This time he was using his skates.
 
All of Cooke's weight was on his right leg considering his left leg was in the air, so for his left leg to come down with enough force to cut a tendon he had to stomp down. The weight and force of his leg on its own isn't enough to do that IMO.

I agree, somethings not right with that hit.

I understand % of freak accidents with skates have been increasing with time. But the way Cooke raises his skate like that, did not look natural at all to me. Actually seems really weird to see him raise his skate like that going into the boards.

You are responsible for your stick going into a hit you should be responsible for what your skate does unless its an obvious accident.
 
Yeah, it was certainly an unnatural way to approach the boards. The whole thing just seems sort of "off" to me. And with it being Cookie...
 
Yeah that was a pretty unnatural movement from Cooke. At first look I thought it was incidental contact, but he actually stuck his foot out and down, and then pulled it back the other direction. If he was off balance, he wouldn't have been able to do that. It was almost as if he tried to slewfoot Karlsson, and when that failed, he just chopped him with the skate.
 
We saw what Ottawa's response was when Boyle roughed up EK last year, I can't wait to see the next Pitt-Sens game. Get the popcorn ready!
