At the end of the day, this is the last possible year we can hold this core together.

Next offseason new contracts:
Shesty
Laff
Miller
Kakko
Schneider?

Thats alot of dinero that will be spent. Especially when kakko breaks out this year :D

And thats not including if we sign a top 4 d.

i fully expect this is the last season Trouba, Kreider and Goodrow are on the team if they stay this year. There is basically no possible way we can keep them next.

Does anyone know why the Utah team wasn’t allowed to keep the Coyotes branding?
Because the Coyotes, as a franchise, still exists. The only thing Utah bought was the hockey personnel (players, hockey ops behind the scenes people, etc.). Utah didn't buy the rights to the whole Coyotes franchise. Meruelo still owns the franchise and relevant IP. Why? Who knows. Business deals are weird.

So right now, the NHL technically has 33 franchises, but will be icing 32 teams. The Coyotes are just dormant/inactive, but the franchise retained all branding, intellectual property, business ops, etc. If Meruelo is able to win the land auction and successfully meet the NHL's 5-year construction and hiring timeline (as well as meet their standards) then the Coyotes will become active again and they will probably have an expansion draft to get them players.

The land auction is taking place on June 27th.

So did the coyotes owner not want to sell? How tf are they going to let that guy own another team. I heard they weren’t even paying hotel bills this year.

It was all a bit weird, but my understanding was that yes, the Yotes owner doesn't want to stop being an NHL owner (and possibly needs the team to support his land buying ideas, and to run a sportsbook in AZ), however the NHL finally put their foot down about playing in Mullet. So they came to an agreement where he 'sells' the players to Utah while the Yotes become inactive, and he's got a 5 year window to get a his team reactivated if he meets certain conditions.

It's going to be such a dreadful outcome for us if Edmonton can't do anything.

The FO will just say "Panthers r good," not look at the team critically at all, and roll back the same team with a couple of nothing changes in the bottom six.
