“He’s a very good teacher,” Sullivan said. “He has a good understanding of the game, a good command of the X’s and O’s, and not only that, he understands how to help players improve and grow and get better. I think his [coaching] experience in college hockey would really help them in that regard, just dealing with the younger generation and trying to help players grow and develop as people.”

Mike Sullivan on David Quinn.

Boston University guys gotta stick together!

David Quinn, noted X’s and O’s Guru

What does Hughes and Fox and Chytil and anyone who sustains a week-to-week injury do during their time? Surely, they have medical check-ups, followed by rehab appointments. But do they just leave the team environment and become civilians mostly? I think some switch their focus to their team's charity commitments or they hole up at home to heal, maybe sometimes visiting the practice facility?
Young , single and rich .....no games the next day ....no need to ask what they are doing . LOL....live the life while they can . Lots of TLC and stuff....going to be dead a long time so they so may as well have some fun .

It's the Mintyukov effect. No coincidence that the one Russian prospect Jovo doesn't hype ends up being the best.

I'm kidding... kind of.

Mintyukov is the most comically entertaining and objectively great D I've seen in a while. He would drive some of the hockey "scholars" here to the worst analysis of all time with the way he plays but I love it. He will assuredly have some hideously ugly moments with just how insanely aggressive he is up ice but Anaheim needs to let experience be his teacher instead of trying to rein him in. He's at his best when he's just doing what he does out there.

Anyone who hasn't seen him play should watch him. He takes being a "rover" to a whole new level and he's got a very good grasp on defensive fundamentals that will only serve him even better as he grows.
Thanks for the brief description....I'll have to watch some Duck play .

Do it just for him. McTavish is great too.

So he's a rookie Quinn Hughes?

He's much bigger & faster version, with more flair.

No they’re very different.

Hes like Brent Burns turned up 3 notches with a bit of Slavin flavor sprinkled in defensively. I think he’s spent more time below the oppositions goal line than his own lol but hes shown that he can make the proper reads in his own end and is pretty adept at breaking up plays above his own blue line and intercepting passes in the NZ. More of a work in progress here but he does it enough for me to know that it’s pretty instinctual for him.

Great wheels and he’s got a long wingspan. He checks every single box from a tools perspective and he’s already pretty good at using them (at 19 no less.)

I feel like defensemen now are a lot more exciting than 10 years ago when other than Karlsson defensemen were kind of boring.

You mean trying riskier-but-more-exciting things and being more and more successful with it is more fun than being a boring-ass less-successful slow d-man is better?

Pfffffffffffffffffff...nah............ ;)

Players have realized that being successful defensemen doesn't mean you have to just sit back and whatnot. Controlling the puck in transition and in the OZ is a much better defensive strategy than just getting cardio in and taking someone to the boards once they enter the DZ.

Looking for the Nucks to trash the Oilers and bury them deeper in the hole.

Mintyukov is super aggressive even by today’s standards and I’m sure he’ll be bashed for it by some but he does things his way because he can. Not everyone can get away with playing the way he does.

The “classic” 2 way defenders are still pretty damn valuable though. The last teenage defenseman who really blew my
pants off was Doughty and he fits that bill.
There’s certainly a shift with how D play these days but funny enough, a bunch of recent cup winners have had D’s populated with the boring oak tree type players.

Kucherov 9 points in little over a game (basically 60 min of play)...WTF?!?! Likes playing in Canada I guess.
