I haven’t seen it but in general i think it’s a great feature. Ideally it’s able to be toggled on/off.
It's very subtle and quick, but slow enough for the eye to catch it and follow. The tail is basically the same width as the puck on the ice, and just black with a taper as it gets further away. And only seems to be in use when along the boards? Unless NHLN is toggling it on/off.

EDIT: Nvm looks like they are indeed toggling it on/off and it still happens for open-ice puck movement, which still looks fine.

I was looking at the Rangers schedule. The Calgary game is 9:45pm. Usually the Flames and Oilers games start at 9pm. The NHL is having NHL Frozen Frenzy tomorrow night. 32 teams. 16 games. No promotion from the league. Nothing. The start times are staggered.

Flames Rangers was one of the best regular season games of the season last year. You’d think that could be marketed somehow but the league doesn’t even try or care.

I've seen some marketing by ESPN. They will have an "NFL Red Zone" style show at 8pm on ESPN2 (7pm on ESPN+)

Thats awesome.

The thing that makes zero sense to me though is how they still rely on subjectivity for goals "kicked" in by skates and pucks crossing the goal line. If theres a chip in the puck to track all of those metrics they should easily be able to know if its completely crossed the goal line or not by adding something into the ice.

Sam Rosen called out John Giannone on air for refusing to start the MSG pregame show at 9:00. P.M.

What happened?
Knee in the side from Evander Kane last game.
It’s better than what it used to be in the late 90s with the red one

Ty Emberson made his NHL debut the other night with the Sharks. Rangers shsould have kept him and waive Pitlick. Rangers had more forward depth than dman depth.
don’t lose sleep over Emberson. He’s a piece of furniture.

I feel like this is easier said than done. I’m trying to conceive of a tracking technology with the resolution required in three dimensions to function with the required reliability.

It’s much easier to track relative motion than it is precise location.

Right...

You would need some kind of passive or active positioning, and a gyroscopic sensor to determine the orientation of the puck.

If you knew the pucks precise location and it's orientation, it's trivial to figure out if it's passed the goal line.

That said, precise indoor 3D location tracking may not be there yet.

Not only do you need to fit all this tech inside of a puck, it has to be really small as to not effect the overall density/feel of the pucks.

Next thing we have the lights out and glow in the dark players......if they want to make the puck easier to follow then lose the board advertising and bring us back to when they were pristine white ....like that will ever happen .
