that 1st round pick that the jets gave up for monahan most likely would not have yielded anybody that could produce at monahan's present level. whether or not monahan ever reaches those stats of 2019 with all the surgeries he's had remains to be seen. there is potential for that to happen. the guy is a survivor and he could be useful going forward, including the playoffs. i think it's a great trade.

we were never going to get him without extreme overpayment. we will not be making a deal with mtl anytime soon. the bad blood is gorton-drury...it's not about the org or dolan. it's personal, i don't even know if drury could get gorton to answer the phone. monahan might have been a guy they wanted to pursue, but he was never a realistic option.

with the Elias Lindholm trade completed i feel the urge to re-hash the conversation around how some users on these boards felt Tony DeAngelo was a more valuable asset than Elias Lindholm, brb digging up receipts

@DanielBrassard, @Matt4776, @Igor Shestyorkin and my favorite @offdacrossbar comparing ADA to Cale Makar
Yeeesh. You dredge up the past better than my wife!

Sooo we're going to ice the most ridiculous Olympics roster ever yes? USA hockey has really been on a tear since our last appearance.

Matthews between the Tkachuks? Or Hughes between the Tkachuks?

What McDavid will have to do in order to defeat us will have to be the greatest performance of all time.

Our G situation worries me a little, but our depth at every position seems way too tough to beat. And I would not be surprised if Oettinger gets better or a new young stud American goalie emerges before then.

America, f*ck yeah.

The reason why Finland has usually done good with a less talented roster is the system and coaching. You should hope that with the way US Hockey program has been for years now, that this could give you and edge over the Canadians. Because they haven't changed one bit. They will rely on talent alone, the coach is there as a motivational speaker.

@Chainshot

Apparently Roy has plans to turn Barzal into a 200ft center for next year

I could see Gauthier doing well with this staff. In some fan fiction the fourth line is him and Edstrom running around on the forecheck.
I feel like Gauthier is similar to Brendan Lemieux in that we were all salivating at the thought of what he could be instead of what he actually is. He's an excellent skater, full stop. That's the extent of his NHL level skillset. It'd be nice if he was a huge, strong version of Hagelin, but he isn't.
