The NHL made the rule about things like this and pride tape, saw it was immensely unpopular among players/pundits/fans, and they (hopefully) know that if they enforce the rule it will be even bigger backlash than the initial release.
So they're just going to sit there and do nothing.
I saw this earlier. Absolutely horseshit that they wouldn't let him wear it. I'm really glad he did anyway.
The NHL apparently said they'd also consider a substantial fine for the team, which I guess they were hoping wokd convince the team to tell him not to. Now I see it sounds like the NHL, as you said, isn't going to do anything at all. Hardly surprising given en how idiotic the initial change was.
