I love what the Ducks are doing and like them way better as a team, but it’s a silly take.

Carlsson is having his ice team and games manager and playing with Zegras, McTavish, Terry, Killorn, Vatrano, Strome, Mintyukov, Fowler, etc.

Bedard is being deployed as if he were prime McDavid already and is working with the corpses of Foligno and Perry and Andreas Athenesiou.

I have zero doubt I’m going to be very high on Carlsson, and may even end up having more of a soft spot for him - the way I preferred Peter Forsberg over Jagr and Lemieux - but Bedard at barely 18 years old and way less physically mature is just blatantly on a different level offensively than anyone else close to his age.

I feel like this is a take that exists because he's 5'9" but he is not physically immature.

Dude has legs that would make MOST guys jealous. He's a real thick kid for 18. He just looks like an athlete and could have probably played almost any sport he wanted to a pro or near pro level.

He's going to smoke everyone for the calder if he doesn't get hurt regardless of who he plays with. He had his NHL adjustment period - domination will ensue for the next 15-20 years.

No disrespect to Carlsson either because I actually dropped in here to mention how good he looks. I see a ton of Sundin in his game.

Bedard is just different though.

I agree with you. It isn’t what I meant personally - what I meant was that he’s still very much a teenager. He definitely looks like an athlete - I just think he has so much more physical growth and maturation ahead of him than many rookies.

He has so much runway. Laf, for example (and not because he hasn’t lived up to 1OA hype or to compare them, just as D+1 cases) was very much closer to a “finished product” physically, at 19 as a rookie than Bedard is currently at 18. Granted Laf was one of the oldest in his draft and Bedard one of the youngest, but we’re not taking about just one year of physical maturity. What I’m saying is just that Laf was already closer to being in his “final form” in terms of his build than Bedard.

Again, this isn’t to pick on Laf. Same could be said of Ovechkin. He had some metamorphosis over the years, but he was a heavy physical power guy from day one. He was close to his physical peak immediately. Bedard like… this kid is gonna get better for 3-4 years minimum. He’s not an adult yet. Ovie was a young adult. Bedard is a kid.

And he’s f***ing sick.

Oilers team is McDavid and Draisaitl with 10 Boninos plus 6 Ben Harpurs on defense. Some of those Boninos fight, some of those Boninos are just like Bonino and are face off specialists, some of those Boninos have gambling debts. A Swedish Harpur on defense. A black Harpur on defense, a young Harpur on defense, couple of Georgievs in net.
