Around The NHL (Part XLI)

I'm pulling for the Wild to put together a nice season. Minnesota is a great hockey town and their fans deserve it.

I'm really liking Nail's celebrations. Nothing wrong with a little color to this league. God knows it can be too vanilla sometimes.

Has anyone else noticed that Oilers threads on the main boards continuously churns into 40 hilarious pages of trolling and potshots?

I also enjoy any player that can get on Cherry's nerves. Yakupov is in line to be my new favorite. Keep up the enthusiasm, kid!

Ovechkin was the same when he came to the league and everybody (well, Cherry and his minions) crucified him. Eff the bashers, let the kid enjoy!

Seriously, what was even wrong with that? He was beckoning his team to come celebrate with him. They probably thought he was going to skate down the ice.

Oh how I hate the word "celly".

Because some folks think/thought he was pointing at himself and was not being humble enough.

The correct hockey play: take out his mouth/teeth protector, pump fists with the backup goalie in the locker room with a serious look on his face and drive home. The next day, apologize in the local newspaper for scoring a big goal.

Former Ranger, but mostly Whale goalie Chad Johnson's 2 first nhl games has been a great success..

2 Games
1 Shutout
95.2% save %
0.98 GAA

Good defense, luck or is he a great player ?

Maybe its just the fact that it has been 2 games.

I like Yakupov. Makes up for not liking Schultz, so I'm okay with the Oilers being good so far.

Today is a big day for the Phoenix Coyotes franchise. The newly negotiated and very franchise-friendly lease agreement between the Coyotes and the City of Glendale is voided today if the sale to Greg Jamison isn't completed today. The new mayor of Glendale, who was not involved in the lease negotiations, is vehemently against the terms of the deal, which would require Glendale to shell out upwards to $320,000,000 over the next 20 years to help the Coyotes pay down arena-management fees. Safe to say, if Jamison doesn't show the NHL the money today, it pretty much spells the end of the southwest hockey experiment.

Maybe I'm ignorant, and the hand signal meant something else, but to me it seemed like he was just calling his team over?

:dunno:

That's what I was thinking too, and on the highlights on TSN you can see Whitney throw a forearm at Morris for apparently no reason... Maybe that's why Morris was pissed, not because of the celebration?

Yea I wouldn't mind seeing Yak get punched in the mouth but he did nothing wrong at all there.

And it really looked like Morris was responding to Whitney, not the celly.

Sounds like it's not gonna happen...there's a rumor that the NHL didn't like one of Jamison's investors and he can't find replacement funds

City of Glendale is gonna get screwed either way because they're gonna lose a bunch of money without the Coyotes anyways. It's either pay to keep them there, or pay for an empty arena to sit around most of the year.
