If you could run Eichel/Mika long term then yeah it was probably a gamble worth doing (I just feel there'd be more cap issues somewhere).

As good as Eichel has been, his current stat line is 22 6-18-24.
Mika is one playoffs removed from 20 10-14-24

I guess it’s possible… but keeping Eichel and Zibanejad as your 1/2 is just more incentive to actually find a way to force Bread to waive. There’s no way of shaking it where I wouldn’t rather have Eichel/Zib. Players like Eichel are never available. I know the neck was the big question mark when it comes to the price, or else almost every team in the league likely would have been willing to pay it, but we have the deepest pockets in the NHL and if any franchise could have gotten best results from a medical procedure, I’m sure we could have.

Not that any of it matters one cent now.
