In the first couple of games Panarin played pretty well. Then he started being scared to take hits, refused to take hits to make plays, a must if you want to play in the playoffs and have any success. Then the whole team caught Panarin-itis. They seemed to just quit. It was weird. Something had to be going on behind the scenes.
They either tuned out the coach or some drama behind the scenes. Why else would this team give up so easily? Pathetic leadership here. Panarin is just a regular season player always was, always will be. No team wins with players like that.

Goodrow Vesey and that’s it sometimes kid line when playing well together. Not much else really.
they do not go in with that ferocity that Martinook went in with.

We're just too easy to play against. Playing through checks/interference is too hard.

They at least play physical at times, hit at times, when has Panarin or Mika ever did that?

They also go more in front of the net then outside or the side anyone other than Kreider. When has Panarin or Mika digged a loose puck from in front of the goalie

Caught stargazing at Kane. There also has to be some frustration among players whose roles were constantly changing to accommodate the stars. Gallant was not the best coach for navigating that

Panarin should go to a team that perpetually misses the playoffs. Back to Columbus maybe.

If only we had a coach who could do the same.
Gallant has plenty of warts, literally & figuratively, but Al Arbour's ghost couldn't get the players on our team to forecheck aggressively. We simply weren't built to play that way....Honestly I'm unsure what style would suit our team. We're not interesting in going to the net to look for rebounds, even if we were, we don't shoot the puck...unless the goalie is completely unscreened. We're too slow to dump & chase, we don't have the speed or the puck handlers to make consistent zone entries, & only the kids can create a consistent cycle.

It really sucks we lost to these clowns, but maybe it's the giant wake up call this organization badly needed. You cannot win in the playoffs without a few relentless lunch pail guys & the entire team willing to score greasy goals. Not to mention a team that can skate better than a beer league squad. It's time we re-entered the 21st century.

It's amazing how an 800 year old Brett Burns looks faster than anyone on our team regardless of age.
I just noticed Derek Stepan looked quicker than I remember

I'm hoping the Devils get swept for that reason alone. It would look much worse on our part and hopefully brings change

All of those plus they thought they can just out skill the Devils. They were wrong. As I said in the post game thread. I don't see a big difference talent wise between the Rangers and the Devils. It's the ancillary things (speed, scheme, etc.) where the gap exists.

They have to try it or else what was the point?
I think we needed to integrate them into the TEAM. Moving forward it can't be the kids & the other 9 forwards. They also need to come ready to play after committing themselves to 5 months of hard training. We keep saying their skating can be improved, but they need to start working on it pronto. It's absurd we don't have a power skating coach on retainer. Pretty obvious the entire team could use it.
