Meh...I'm as greedy as the next guy but once the hockey gods smiled upon us a month ago and gave us the #2 overall pick in the draft, everything else that happened was all gravy for me....just sayin....

This isn’t directed at you, but can I just go on record as definitively saying that I seriously dislike even the basic premise of that concept.

The second pick is wonderful. But putting that on the side for a moment, the difference between the result we got and result we painfully close to in the last 72 hours is anywhere from 17-22 slots in the draft.

That’s a lot, even with the second pick in the draft.

Edge. Shake it the **** off

We need u bro!

Figure out what we can, could, should and shouldn’t do...

We’re counting on u bro!!!! Time to step the **** up

Here's what we do. We bring JD in as Prez...we draft Kakko and some potential stud Dman or two in the draft. We sign Breadman and we bring all of our new toys from Russia into camp and have a fun season with some kids contributing and make the playoffs this time next year....easy peasy...lol

True.

But it’s reality so there are two ways u can handle it... get upset and be mad and still make those picks/moves

Or make those picks/moves

Either way ur going where ur going (yes I get that it may cost more now)

I hear ya and I don't take offense at all at your comment. I'll tell ya what tho, if I had the choice of us being 17-20 slots ahead in this years draft due to something like Dallas making it to the WCF vs the Stars signing Zucc which I think is a pretty damn possibility and getting their first round pick next year in what is supposed to be a more robust and talented group of prospects, I'll go with option 2.

Now had we not signed Fox, which IMO was huge for us this offseason, maybe I don't feel the same way. But we did and so I really do feel that getting the overall #2 pick this year in Kakko was the key to the offseason and anything else that happened like Dallas scenario this year, truly was part of the bonus plan. It's about things we can control now at this point for this year and under Gorton and hopefully JD, I feel supremely confident the rebuild will continue to go superbly and we will be a bubble playoff team next year on the way to many years of Cup contending thereafter...

It’ll fade with time. Just a disappointing 24 hour stretch.

But I still think the Rangers need to make an initial move that includes getting them closer to the top of the draft. That move in and of itself almost certainly won’t get them into the top 10, but it could put them within striking distance if they like what they see.

I feel like even a package of 20, 49 and 58 would probably only get them to maybe around the 14 slot.

However if they’re already sitting in that range...

Am I the only one who thinks the C position is our biggest weakness moving forward? Can't even guess how players will adapt and develop but we have nothing at center.

Zbad, Howden (looks like a 3c to me who may slot up to 2nd when needed), Chytil who looks more like a winger, Andersson who I'd be happy if he panned out as a solid 3rd C.

We have tons of defense. No idea how they pan out, but some look very promising and are just stuck behind our logjam of lingering S-named defensemen. Why would Rykov even risk coming over given all the LDs we have, two of which are rookies who have already gotten a small shot in the big show. Good on goaltending for now, zero need to muddy an already complex situation there potentially. Same for wingers with Kravstov and Kakko, Buchnevich looking like he may take the next step, Kreider potentially still around until TD at least. Maybe chasing Panarin... Centers? Nada.

Unless we magically get Hughes, our center depth is laughable. Need to draft a few and maybe try to move up to get one who seems better than the rest of the pack or that our org is high on. 2nd round too, we do well there sometimes!

Of course things changed when we lucked into the 2nd OA, and we still have #20 and 2 seconds. Not #18 and #28-31 as we'd hoped, but hey, we're solid and can move a pick or two and/or player if we see a good deal... But if they're going to step up the timeline because of Kakko... we can move guys, we can buyout someone (still paying G $3.6M next season tho), we can sign a UFA, sure. But we're still gonna be icing Zbad and some mix of Chytil/Howden/Strome/Nieves and/or trying Kakko at C. Doesn't matter this year. Matters moving forward.

nope. which is why i have zero problem with NJ picking Kakko since Hughes will give us a dynamic player at C that we've been missing for decades. happy with either but C is a big weakness of ours. Andersson and Howden probably have career potentials as 40 pt centers. I genuinely hope Howden can be much more. Lias, I'm having a hard time seeing him explode past that 40 pt ceiling. That is probably why there is a lot of chatter about us trading up into the top 10 to grab one of Cozens/Dach/Turcotte/Zegras but even that feels like a bit of a pipe dream.

I think it's more a mental state than a concept. While I understand what you're getting at, the reality is that life as a Rangers fan is very often dismal and unlucky. To have the luck we did by winning the lottery and then expect it to continue would be 'greedy.' I'm pretty happy with our situation. Of course, I understand the ramifications of what transpired over the past few days, but what can we do about it.

The Rangers started with #6 and moved up to #2.

The Rangers started with #22 and moved up to #20.

The Winnipeg pick could have started off at #28 with them winning the Central. Winnipeg blew the division with their bad play. Nashville won the division and they have #24 entering the draft. It cost the the Rangers a mid 2nd to move 4 spots last year.

Some teams(Caps, Flames & Nashville) in the bottom of the first round saw their picks move up 4 spots because Boston, Carolina, San Jose and St. Louis are in the bottom 4. The SJ and STL picks were traded to Buffalo who them traded the better of those picks to Anaheim for Montour. Both of those picks are in the bottom 4.

It sucks the Rangers didn't get an extra 1st from either TB or Dallas. The Rangers could trade Kreider for a 1st.

When Dallas lost, that was the likely the end of Kreider as a Ranger. Need to trade him for another top pick.

The Islanders got swept and we got the second overall pick. As a Rangers fan this is already far more luck than we ever get. Not shocked at all about how the last few days have gone down.

Very disappointed. Not at all surprised.

I want San Jose to win it all so I don’t care the Avs lost and pushed our pick to 20

The Rangers probably aren’t even going to be picking at 19 or 20 so the difference between them is negligible

What could we expect for Kreider+20?

Stepan+Raanta got TDA+7OA.

What team that have a top 10 pick is willing to trade that for 1 year of Kreider and the 20.?
I would not have traded our pick last year for a year of Kreider and the 20. overall.
Dont think there is a market for Kreider in the teams with the high picks (possible COL, but their 4. is to valuable to get for Kreider).
EDM might want a player like Kreider, but I doubt he will resign there, so doubt they will offer the 8.

If we get like pick14.for kreider, then we might trade that and 20 for something around 10, but will have to be in 2 separate deals.

I've seen that called offsides a bunch of times just in these playoffs. Whatever the stupid rule is.

Further, if he's offsides, then why isn't a too many men penalty? Rule needs to change.

Dallas got called like 5 times for this in their game 7...

As "dumb" as the rule seems, you HAVE to get the f*** off the ice especially when you're on the long change... Or even better, your bench has two doors. Tell your players to use the neutral zone door during long-change periods... OR be a real hockey player and just hop the f*** over the boards
