yep, canes / jackets / avalanche all would draft higher than winnipeg so we need them to advance! double bonus Islanders get eliminated triple bonus we get 1st rounder from Dallas if they advance. Then zuccarello just has to re-sign with Dallas and we get another first in 2020

The general vibe I'm getting from Dallas fans is that they love Zucc (no duh from us) and are willing to resign him. A lot of their summer roster planning scenarios include resigning him. He's really contributing to their playoff run (3-6-9 in 10) and with the emergence of Hintz, they are finally more than just a one line team. Heiskanen and Lindell are also pulling their weight in making them competitive. Of course, I'll want them to tank next season

Dickinson is also playing very well this playoffs. They have gone from a 1-line team to a team with a good top 6 with the addition of MZA and the emergence of Hintz and Dickinson.
At the moment it really looks like they will re-sign MZA.

Are we actually ever returning the favor to HalleJockel? (Or whatever his name was)

You remember. That Canes fan which stopped by couple of years ago.

what did he do and how do we return the favor? it sounds vaguely familiar.

The Canes dropped out of the PO race and the Canes board here had a draw. Their posters were split up among the remaining teams to go root for them/ jump on the bandwagon.

We had a lot of fun and he kinda stuck around a bit.

Idk, I guess jump on their bandwagon or just wish them well. Something like that, lol

Ben Bishop will determine what happens in this series. If Bishop plays up to his standards, the Stars will win. Bishop has been outplayed by Jordan Binnington. The Stars are getting good looks and they will score their goals. Bishop has given up so many bad goals in the series. It's all on Bishop's shoulders.

Two things:

1. Zucc is really having an amazing playoffs and I like the Stars' team in general. Despite the higher pick we would garner if they move forward, I'd really like to see them and especially Zucc, win the cup.

2. I wonder what would have happened had the Islanders' series gone longer, or if they had faced more of a fight. The Canes just seem better prepared for the adversity of the playoffs and its very possible that derives from them taking out the defending champs in the 1st round. It has to be really hard to come back after a long break and go up against a team that has already become playoff weathered.

Except Columbus is going through the exact same thing with Boston and they look like the better team.

I have to say I think with zucc basically elevating whoever he plays with it gives Dallas two real lines. Add that to three really good dmen and I think they’re a better team than stl. The question mark is bishop. He just hasn’t been consistent. If he pulls it together like he did at the end of the Nashville series this should be a Dallas series win.

Stopo being a Ranger fan.

The Stars made the Western Conference finals in 2007-08. The Stars had won one playoff series since 07-08 prior this season. The Stars had missed the playoffs in 8 of those 10 seasons.

The Stars were a one line team prior to acquiring Mats Zuccarello from the Rangers. He is tied in points with Seguin, Benn and Radulov for playoff points with 9 in 10 games. The acquisition of Zuccarello allowed Montgomery to make changes by flipping his centers last night. He put Seguin on a line with Zuccarello and Dickinson. Hintz with Benn and Radulov.

The Stars are a now team and they have so much money invested in Seguin, Benn, Radulov and Bishop. $30.5M in cap space. All of those players except for Seguin will be 30 before the start of next season. They have to win. Zuccarello has become a big part of their team. They aren't re-signing the player because they concerned about losing a draft pick who won't play for them for another 2-3 years at the very least?

Time will tell.

70/30 that they sign him. Unless they win the Cup. Then they aren't signing him.

Dallas has cap space galore. If they can find a way to rid themselves of Nichuskin and Hanzal they will have even more. I’d take Hanzal for a year (yes I’ve said that before). If Dallas loses this round, take Hanzal and have Dallas send their 1st this year over. That’s $4.75m in cap space. Added bonus, it gives Dallas even more cap space to re-sign Zuccarello.

Good point. The one thing I would say is CBJ's regular season didn't reflect their abilities IMO. I think they are the best team. They are a really good, from top to bottom, but for whatever reason severely under-performed in the regular season.

In theory, I feel the Isles and Carolina should be relatively evenly matched. But maybe the Isles couldn't get up for the series after the long break. Maybe it's the injury bug as well. Who knows.

I agree Columbus looks like the team to beat right now.

I’m seeing a Sharks Columbus final

There were quite a few people here that thought Dallas would never pony up the first round pick to sign Zucc. I remember reading the scenarios well if they make it the Conference finals, they will never want to give up another first. People overvalue draft picks.

Like others have said, they are a win now team. Remember all that criticism of their top players for under-performing? I could be wrong, but there is no doubt in my mind that they will try to sign him. Like others have pointed out, look what having a real second line has done for them.

The key question for me has always been, will Zucc want to play in Dallas? That to me will determine whether we get that first round pick. I think having playoff success and bonding with the team helps. Living in Dallas is main issue. I live in Houston and have been in Dallas dozens of times. It's a nice enough place, but it's no NYC. It just depends on what kind of lifestyle he wants. Not to mention how his fashion gf would like Dallas instead of NYC. I think she splits her time between Oslo and NYC.
