I'd rather Montreal lose tonight. I want Boston 2 and Rangers 7.. its our best chance by far.. unless the Jets win the SE but I really don't see that happening

So who do we want in the Leafs/Sens match?

I guess Toronto. Their schedule is much easier than Ottawa's.
At this point, unless we completely collapse, we're in. However, I would try to avoid finishing in 8th, since we will probably get swept by a healthy Pens team. Montreal is starting to spring holes and I'll take Hank over Price any day of the week to steal a series.

A ROW win against Devils tomorrow and Rangers gain the tiebreaker against Islanders with only 1 point behind + 3point up on Jets.
Would be a huge win.

For the 8th place watchers, the biggest game now is the Caps/MTL game. A ROW for MTL would mean we have a game on WSH (needing to get at least a point to remain ahead of WSH after game in hand is burned because of their superior ROW) and a game and a point in hand against the Jets.

Sens have two tough games -- Toronto and Pittsburgh.

If they lose those games in regulation and the Rangers beat the Devils in R/OT, Rangers are the 7th seed on 23 April, just one point behind the Isles for the 6th seed.

On 23 April, the Rangers play at Florida and Isles ar at Carolina.

A Ranger win and an Isles loss on 23 Apr puts the Rangers in the 6th seed with equal games with the Isles and the Sens with one game in hand.

I'd still prefer a Leafs loss. They're in freefall, and still have Montreal left.

Plus, it would be hilarious if they miss the playoffs

Nope. Sens would have a game in hand with the same number of points. A leafs loss would actually put us in a better position

Our chances of catching them relies upon variance at this point being 2 and a game and 3 points behind each team. If they go .500 in any fashion to finish, we would need to go 4-0-0 to surpass the leafs and at least a 3-0-1 against the Sens assuming we have more ROW than them at the end. If the leafs lose tonight, if they still catch .500 for their remaining games, we would still need at least 3-0-1 against the leafs and 4-0-0 against the Senators just to have a chance to past them assuming we have more ROW than them which will be difficult if they win in regulation tonight and move up to 20 ROWs. If the Leafs win tonight and the Sens lose and assuming the same .500, we will need 3-1-0 to have a chance assuming more ROW and 3-0-1 to pass them. It's much better to strive for a 3-1-0 assuming .500 than 3-0-1 - 4-0-0.

Of course, with the Sens playing better hockey, you could root for them to win and for the Leafs to slide out but the Sens are equally capable of going in a slide.

If WSH loses in regulation tonight to Montreal, then we can play the "more points than either team in the final 4 game for us and 3 games for them" game.

Also to Nils: Leafs need 1 more ROW gained or 1 RL for the Jets to get there. The only way leafs fall out is if the Jets run 3-0-0 and for them to run 0-2-2 or worse. Statistically, that's around the <1% range.

It's insane. isles are 6-0-1 to gain ground , Sens are 4-0-0 to stop the free fall. Jets are 5-0-1 to recover from a sure demise situation and Caps are 6-1-0 to recover from a blown season.

While we've been 5-2-0 in the last 7, we've gained no ground at all on anyone, that's 4 teams. Crazy.

The Rangers should just worry about themselves. They win out, their playoff spot is all but assured as the other contenders are unlikely to win out themselves. The mantra is "just get in".
