Would people trade Nash straight up or Ovechkin?

wtf?

Nash backchecks all the time, AND he kills penalties.

to put them in the same sentence, either defensive OR offensively is practically offensive.

I would, sure.

But I think Nash is a better defensive player by a MILE.

I just happen to think AO is an incredible player and id love to have him on this team. plus he loves playing here, you know he'd do well offensively.

Ovechkin is a liability. If he scores around an average of a goal a game and is on the ice for an average of around a goal and a half a game against, how exactly does this help your team?

Sure, the guy is fun to watch, but leading the league in goals and being 862nd in +/- is just stupefying.

His goal totals would drop, but other aspects would probably improve.

At first, I would have loved a 40-50 goal scorer...

but you have to realize that:
a) about half of his goals (and usually more) are on the power play... why spend $9M on that guy when you can get a guy for 4-6M who can just blast shots on the PP, and maybe be a 3rd line winger at the same time? it's cheaper, gets the job done, and makes for a more rounded-out game.
b) his defensive liabilities are something I was completely unaware of... until I saw his +/- stats... 48 goals, and yet a -36 rating...

Ovi has been on the ice for 84 GOALS THIS YEAR... Now take a look at WSH Goals Against: 231 GA... Ovechkin is on the ice for 36% of all goals against.

Compare to Corey Perry: 41 Goals, a +33 rating, which means he's been on the ice for a mere 8 goals against. ANA goals against is 193GA, therefore Perry has been on the ice for only 4% of goals against...

But you say ANA is such a good defensive team, so we'll use Dallas, who blows on defense:
Tyler Seguin has 33 goals and a +15, so he's been on the ice for 18 goals against. Dallas goals against is 212GA. That's ~9% of all goals against...

I'm sorry, but most are right when they say that Ovi is a defensive cancer...

When Nash was off his game, I got on his butt about trading him, and was cool with an Ovi for Nash straight up trade. However, watching the last few games makes me realize how much work he puts in defensivly, even if it isn't Grade A defensive work (he's a goal scorer, not Ryan McD)

Do you not realize that he doesn't get a plus for PP goals, so that number is not 8.

Nash could be a fantastic defensive forward if he put a little more effort into hit.

He's realllly good at stripping the puck from the opponent.

This isn't correct. Perry's ANA team could've scored without him figuring in on the scoring. Also, assists count for +'s.

He was certainly on the ice for a lot more than 8 goals against... :D

Not sure if I want Philly or Columbus tonight :dunno: I guess it depends on whether or not the Rangers win. Too bad we won't know that until 1140ish.....

Guess the best I can do is just hope for no OT :dunno:

I guess if I had a gun to my head, I would pick PHI to beat CBJ. Anything to keep us away from those wild card spots. I want no part of playing BOS or PIT in the 1st Round. Obviously, I'm way less scared of PIT than I am BOS, but let someone else beat up PIT in the 1st Round.

Not sure on Philly or Columbus for whom I'd rather. I'm worried about the physical grind of a 7 game series vs Philly in the first round. Then again, Columbus has a lot of familiar players who go all out against us.

Usually in the playoffs, I'd rather play the team with a less proven, less talented goaltender. I think that has to be Mason.

I can't see Philly falling out of a Metro spot. They just keep getting points against top teams, they do not stop. I'm happy to have gained a point on them Sunday and Tuesday, but you'd think they would lose one of STL or BOS in regulation.

Frankly, Columbus strikes me as the team that we'd encounter more of a physical against.

Philly is also more top-heavy and our top pairing does remarkably well against the Giroux line. They need that extra second of time and space to perform their magic and McDonagh simply doesn't give it to them.

I'd rather play Philly for a whole host of reasons.

1. They are more top heavy and therefore easier to neutralize with our top 2 pairings.

2. They are starting to cool off from their streak, and are looking to have possibly peaked at the wrong time.

3. They really don't have what you would call a top defenseman, and they arguably don't even have a #2. We give them serious matchup problems.

4. Steve Mason or the reigning Vezina winner? Who do you think is more likely to steal a series?

5. I just don't want a former Ranger now on the Jackets sticking it to us in the playoffs. It's an unbearable thought after the trades we made with them.

Asking for specific teams is dumb. The Rangers are going to have a hard road no matter what. It will fall however it falls.

Both the Blue Jackets and Flyers are much larger and play more grinding styles than the Rangers.

Obviously you should be ready to face any team, but I would much rather face the Flyers than the Blow Jackets.

Rangers vs BJs and flyers vs pens would be very interesting. The media would eat it up.
