They let up the least goals in the league = best defensive teams. If you've watched them play throughout the year, and I have, it's about the system not about the goalies. Trotz knows how to set up a D.
This is not how it works at all. And I watched most of them so I could rib on my Isles friends.

I agree with you that that's not necessarily how it works, but this is the second different team now where Trotz got a team with mediocre to bad metrics to just stop giving up goals.

There has to be something about his system that's affecting goals against.

Well, they no longer have the option to challenge plays for another 59 minutes, in an elimination game.
Yeah, but this game could end 1-0.

You could certainly argue it was a bad challenge in the sense that it wasn't getting overturned, but to me, time should not be a factor.

It’s a terrible challenge IF the NHL got them right all the time. I think he rolled the dice because he knows it’s a coin toss regardless of the facts.

That's because there are no facts.

The NHL hasn't decided once and for all what goalie interference actually is.

IMO they’re right there with Calgary and Tampa for biggest underformers.

That team should be way better than they are.
Yeah but at least unlike Tampa and Calgary, Winnipeg sucked in December.

No surprises from them.

And they weren't like that at all last year. Either Maurice has lost them, or they're trying to the LA/Washington "let's nap all year and then whip it out in the playoffs" routine and they don't know what the f*** they're doing.

Which is what they just did.

There might not be another play in this game worth challenging. Doing it after 23 seconds is arbitrary.

Right. And now they can’t do it again for the rest of a critical elimination game. And if there is another play in the game worth challenging, which is just as likely as there isn’t, then doesn’t look to good then, does it?

Frankly I thought the Washington/Tampa game near the end of the year was a massive warning to people. Tampa got thrashed in that game. Washington wanted to make a point and they did

Washington knows exactly how to flip the switch when they feel like it. It's not an easy thing to do.

Tampa thought they could and we saw how that went.

But if it ends 1-0 and Muarice had sat on his challenge, they would kill him for that.

Pretty much exactly what happened against Columbus except they weren't playing the Rangers and had to play them three more times.

And CBJ's roster is actually good.

I don't think they or St Louis are getting enough credit for what they've done so far. St Louis was a contender that basically fell asleep for the first half of the year. They've got a really good team.
