Another wildcard up 3-2 on a top seed.

When we go to 32 teams, they should just make the playoffs five rounds. Everyone is in. Just go all the way and officially make the regular season the exhibition it already is.

Dallas has a mix of young players and some vets that have looked good. Nice combo.

This one is a case of the standings being somewhat misleading. Nashville had one more ROW than Dallas. How much better are they really?

Or go to two rounds, so people can't complain about upsets anymore.

e - also, I just had a look at last year's bracket. Only one series in the first round (San Jose over Anaheim) was won by the lower seeded team...

That would make the draft very interesting.

The west 2-6 seeds were a convuluted mess. Nashville clinched the division on the last day. We’re not talking about a stacked team here.

People will always complain about something. When the favorites win you get 'oh this is boring'. When there's upsets people will complain again.

Good lord. These teams were 7 points apart in the standings. Nashville was basically slightly better in shootouts.

Even better, just scrap the playoffs and award the Cup to the best team in the regular season.

This is a valid point.

The points system is another issue entirely.

Last year was the exception. The Kings and Hawks were first round road teams for 3 of their 5 Cups.

And Washington may have been a higher seed but they slept all season.

At least that would get teams to actually play.

It's funny, because what you describe is a sort of transition to a superstar league. Something like the NFL or NBA where one player can get hot and determine a series or even multiple series' despite the other team being built better from top to bottom.

But whereas in the NFL or NBA this leads to continuity and dynasties, in the NHL it's leading to severe parity.

Kind of a strange phenomenon.
Yeah because in the NHL, everyone gets their token superstar.

And in both 2016 and 2017, the first round seen 5 of 8 higher seeds win. We can't just give 8 teams byes because they played better when opponents never had time to prepare and gameplan for them.

It's funny that people keep harping on the Islanders as underdogs, because I feel that's the one series so far where the better team the entire year won.

5 of 8 should be the minimum.

Otherwise, the regular season is exhibition.

If Vegas, blues, stars, caps, laughs advance, what pick do we get from peg?

Pick #17 in that scenario, I believe. If Carolina beats Washington it would fall (rise?) to #16.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that’s what would happen.
