I'll tell you what, with all of the Tampa talk, it really puts things into perspective what that '93-94 squad accomplished with even more pressure on it. You look at that lineup and there wasn't a team in the league that should've taken them to 7 games and yet it happened probably solely because of the pressure and expectations of getting rid of the curse and the half-century+ between Cup wins. Tampa's got a lot less pressure and they're not dealing with it well to this point. I'm really curious how they'll come out in game 3 and what happens if they don't get the first goal.

Playoff hockey is different. Those pretty passes and dekes don't work nearly as well in the post season. Kucherov is a dumb ass for that cheap shot. Really hurt his team there.

Anyone who was a Rangers fan back then knows the 91-92 Rangers team was more talented than the 93-94 squad up front, but once the playoffs hit, you saw the difference. Needed more grit. That Capitals series in round 2 of 94 was a very long and rough five games. It almost turned into a seven game series.

Plenty of teams put together half a decade of regular season dominance that came up short. Senators in the late 90s-early 2000s always come to mind.

I had season tickets both years, FWIW, and I'll take 93-94 over 91-92 any day (Kovalev/Zub0v) talent-wise and grit-wise.

Defense was much better in 93-94. But a young Amonte/Weight/Nemchinov's best NHL season as an older rookie, Rob Zameuner who became a very useful player his intro. Also Turcotte was still a young 30g scorer prior to his injury. The changes had to be made I get that, but talent wise that 92 team was top notch (and both Kovalev and Zubov were already drafted).

Would be great even if we don’t get Tampa’s first round pick to trade the second rounder we get for Adam Fox.
What is all this talk about Adam Fox. I looked it up and Carolina had his rights now Calgary does? Or is that not correct. Who has his rights?

Carolina does. Flames drafted him and then his rights were traded in the Hamilton trade

Ditto on the Kucherov negative comments. But man, in my eyes that is NOTHING co pared to what Big Buff does to players on a regular basis. He is big enough, that he DOESN'T have to crosscheck people across their lower back. He knows there is a soft spot there (little protection) and if you really want to "abuse" an opposing player, that is where u go. Anyway, I have LITTLE respect for players that do that regularly, along with slewfooting. He doesn't need to do that. I have a strong dislike for "little Buff". He may be big, but is VERY small upstairs.

Thanks. Was that a dumb trade by Calgary?

So Fox doesn't give the Rangers a pick or anything right? Just posters goofing around?

Prior to game 2 TB/Jackets.....Was thinking gee......if the Jackets win this game......ya' know, I feel like I have watched this movie before with the Jackets. Sure enough.

Also, I simply cannot stand Cooper. I get it that he cannot show too much emotion, despair, negativity, or put down his club in any way post game......but he just seems to be way too nonchalant about this loss. A little honesty never killed anyone, Torts would have. His team cannot be "that" fragile with their inflated egos......now could they?

Have we faced adversity? NO.
5 alarm fire? Really? Horrific metaphor. People die, even if they get swept.......no one dies. Maybe a rich Lightning fan that bet the house they would never get swept. What were those odds? Btw.

It was a good trade for both teams. Lindholm is key for the Flames as they have been searching for the right fit on Gaudreau's line. And Hanifin is already one of the best young defensemen in hockey.

Hamilton scored 18 goals this year for the Canes. That is exactly why they traded for him. Fox was a throw in it's been known for a year now that he was going to the Vesey route.

If you are asking if Fox would cost the Rangers anything, he is still the Canes property until next year. Rangers can trade for him now and convince him to not return to Harvard and give him an ELC/sign him after his senior year if he is insistent on staying and get a sneak peek at the end of 2020 like the Canucks got with Hughes after he signed once Michigan's season ended.

Or we wait until his rights expire if Carolina insists on not trading him and sign him like we did with Vesey.

Calgary knew they weren’t gonna sign him. Not sure what you are referencing with the rangers other then getting him would be like signing a 1st round pick like when we got Hayes

It’s definitely part of it I think. McD always had too much of that “aww shucks we’ll get ‘em next time” kind of attitude. Being measured has a value for sure but you need to let your emotion in and let it fuel you a bit sometimes.

I suspect Cooper is similarly hands off in the way AV was. Look at Quinn. Even if someone has that laid back doesn’t really matter attitude, he instill something else in the group as a whole. If Cooper is hands off and the TB leadership group is similarly laid back to McD it makes sense that they’re floating around and having the game taken to them by a team with a competent and notoriously firey guy behind the bench.
Girardi was quoted last night saying they were “surprised” to be where they are. The coach needs to mentally prepare the players. You can’t play like you’re too good too lose.

Columbus’ forecheck is causing a lot of trouble. The Rangers did the same thing their last game against Tampa, they don’t have 1/4 as much talent as Columbus. Can’t use that bullshit “playing down to your opponent” excuse anymore. San Jose has a similar bad habit, like they’re too skilled for their own good.

I don't know much about Cooper, but when the Rangers did this against Tampa, it was AV's failure to adapt their style that cost them. I don't expect, nor do I think it was the case, that the players were responsible for the stylistic play of the team. Still, AV had the idea that they could work it out. He was incredibly stubborn, hence his usage of stale lines for months on end.

A country club atmosphere is never good, irrespective of whether or not the team is loaded with successful and responsible vets.

I wouldn’t call it a country club vibe necessarily, just more arrogance down there. This isn’t [potentially] the first time Tampa’s stars have had questionable playoff series. Hedman is also playing through a concussion, and McDonagh is not good enough anymore to pick up the slack. Sergachev doesn’t play defense. Who does that leave? Girardi, Cernak, whoever Jan Rutta is.

Still, they have a great team, and the series is very, very far from over.

Watching The Masters over this game.

Has play been generally in Washington's favour? I'm still holding out hope that Carolina flukes into an ECF berth.

I’ve had it on in the background, with that in mind I think I’d give the Caps the overall edge, but Carolina’s been good the past few minutes. Also this playoff series might be Svechnikov’s coming out party, just had a great back hand chance that he sent a little wide while I was typing this
