Few things:
@Machinehead and I seem to be the only ones that think that Winnipeg trading Laine should be a possibility. Said it last night and have said it before. He's a mortal lock to score 35 to 45 in the regular season. When teams zero in on him and don't give him room, he's barely an NHL top 6 forward. I'd trade him for a ransom if I were Winnipeg for a young player and a high pick or two and build around Schiefele, Connor, Wheeler, Vesalainen, and Ehlers up front. Laine is not worth the contract he'll get. Edmonton would throw stupid money at him. I can see Calgary, Arizona, Tampa (yes, really if they move money around), Carolina, Florida, Boston, Montreal, and Columbus also interested. All of those teams have the trade capital to get it done.
The Rangers should stay far away from Laine. The Rangers need drivers. No more passengers. Kravtsov is a driver. Zibanejad is a driver. Kakko is a driver. Kreider is a driver but he will probably be lost to trade. The last run of Rangers teams didn't win because of the lack of elite talent and lack of offensive players that can drive a line. Too many passengers. For as talented as Gaborik and Nash were, for example, neither consistently drove play while they were here.
I completely blew the Calgary series. I thought they'd win easily. Colorado doesn't look like a team to mess with. Thought Calgary's heavy game and great defense and goaltending would win out in the end. They couldn't get any offense going and their great defense and goalie were under siege. I'd put them at the top of the list as suspects to add offensive help over the summer at the expense of a young defenseman like Andersson or Kylington.
The Rangers have a small right side, especially with Fox a possibility. Hajek is 6'3". Miller will play at 6'3" or 6'4". I'm not worried about perceived size concerns. I also think the Rangers make a hockey trade for a taller, more defensive minded RHD in the next couple of years.
Lastly, LOL Hockey News.
