The pick is still a third even if they don't re-sign him.

Thats still not bad. You can trade for 3rd rounders alot easier than a 2nd.

As much as we suck, and I don't care much for excuses, but we've never had the draft positioning that teams like Chicago, NYI, Edmonton, Pittsburgh or Washington have had.

We have never played the cards we were given, like those teams. When they sucked, they did it right. They took their lumps and built it up again. We sign FA's who keep us from bottoming out and we missed out on a generation of talent.

I think we've been decent enough with drafting outside of Sanguinetti and Jessiman (even though that pick in that particular draft was a travesty).

It's the FA signings. They are so bad that it practically negates everything else.

The FA signings have held us in the middle of the pack draft wise and weighs down the cap that we have to move around bodies everytime a new one is brought in. The FA signings have affected every area of this team in a negative way.

The Nash trade was a no brainer, but with little depth on this team at forward the step back should have been spotted from a mile away.

You're right in your assessment but those 2 botched picks in 03 and 06 set this franchise back terribly.

That, plus the unwillingness to actually be bad when you are bad.

You have to actually suck to get the Malkins and Toews of the world. Unfortunately, the Rangers' reaction to having a roster that is clearly bottom 20% of the league has been to pursue every means possible to get up to like the 40-50% mark. And that's a recipe for perpetual mediocrity.

We also don't have a bunch of lottery picks

And you would love Toews and Kane if they were leading our team to Cups and historic win streaks too, bud.

I dont buy that ****.

Im sick and tired of never having top picks.

We are a franchise mired in bubble finishes and mediocrity.

Exactly right. The mindset here has been the fans won't tolerate the team hitting rock bottom when in fact in the early 2000's (when we were a given to finish out of the playoffs) everybody I know was desperate for a complete rebuild.

The re-signing of Messier in 2000 amongst other poorly conceived and constructed moves was a total travesty and a disgace and emblamatic of how lousy management is here with an owner who doesn't give a **** about the hockey team and a GM who is clueless and completely out of touch!

Neal, Kunitz, Dupuis, Morrow, Iginla

One would assume they have (4) already with their chemistry with the people they play with.
Morrow scored at a lower ES rate than Brian Boyle last season. He should definitely be playing on the 3rd line.

Shero acquiring Morrow and Murray makes me think he's getting ready for the possibility of playing the big, bad Bruins in the playoffs at some point, probably the conference finals.

John Shannon reports the picks becomes a 2nd if the Penguins re-sign him or win 2 rounds of playoffs.

What SJ get for Murray:2nd rd pick in '13 & 2nd rd pick in '14 that becomes a 3rd rd pick in '14 if Pgh don't win 2 rds or resign him

FWIW...I was told by a source that the Pens only have Kesla[sp?] left to add and that Iginla will be heading West either Vancouver or LA . He does not want to move East . How sure am I on this...hmmm...about 85 % !

Also...Doug McLean has been approached by a group interested in him leading them in a purchase of an NHL team on the market [he mentioned this in our local newspaper this morning ]...possibly Phoenix for relocation in Ontario ?

The hurricanes must have a top heavy cap team. Semin at 7 mil, Staals at 15 mil between them, as well as Skinner.

Semin gets $35 million / 5 years. Does anyone still think Nash's contract is an albatross?
