Sullivan to BU for whoever draws their PP.

Also, Washington will not trade OV for a long time. He is the Washington Capitals. They'd stillbe asking the world for him If he was even on the block at all. The only way he would even possibly be considered being traded is if they got rid of GMGM and the new GM convinced ownership it was the best move for the franchise. Highly unlikely. He may not be money on the ice but he is money in the coffers of the franchise.

In Washington, at least half of the sweater-clad fan base has Ovechkin on the back. People name their dogs Ovie. The casual, Sunday fans know him and no one else. The local sports reports start off with "Alex Ovechkin and the Caps in town..." As others have said, he is the franchise. I can't see any circumstance where Leonsis would be willing to part with him.

And again, I can't imagine much of a market for him at this point.

Yeah, when you say Capitals, you think Oveckin. Unless they got a star like Stamkos for him, a trade would never happen. And no one is giving them Matt Duchene or RNH, let alone Stamkos. He's more valuable to an owner than he is on the ice.

I think its a real good sign that the Devils continue to go to Hedberg.

Apparently Kinkaid is supposed to be the heir apparent, but not getting the trust for NHL time. On one hand I feel like this is a taste of what life will be like for their franchise after Brodeur. You just cant replace a guy like that. Its kind of like the Yankee haters salivating over the end of the Rivera-era. No doubt its going to be a tough transition, especially when you build a team from the back on out.

But knowing Lou and the Devils, theyll find some undrafted phenom or theyll fleece out a top goalie prospect from some chump-team. I think what we really want to see happen from our perspective is to see both Marty AND Lou go. Those two maybe the most instrumental pair regarding the success of an NHL team, maybe top 5 or 10 all time.

I think the Rangers will draft a surefire prospect to tend goal once Henrik starts getting up there in age. After this era, I think management finally understands how important it is to build from the net out.

Under the NHL’s proposed new system, the top three teams in each division would make the playoffs and the remaining four spots would go to the top two remaining records in each conference.

Under the NHL's new plan, the Red Wings would make the playoffs and the Rangers would not. As it stands now, the Rangers would make the playoffs but the Red Wngs would not.

Everything about this realignment plan sucks, including the obvious upcoming blunder of expanding to 32 teams in a league that needs contraction not expansion.

We would have two games in hand on Detroit while being one point behind them. Not much of a big deal, IMO.

The biggest problem about the realignment aside from uneven divisions is that they have the better wildcard team automatically playing the worse division leader. Even if the worse wildcard team is better than teams in their division. It's pretty much like 1v3 and 2v4 in a weak division.

It will be a horrible transition. Even if the guy we replace him with is a top goaltender, no-one can or ever will live up to what Brodeur has meant to this franchise (or even the NHL as a whole). He's been the only long term starting goaltender for a decent proportion of Devil fans entire lives.

That said, Kinkaid isn't the heir apparent IMO. He was brought in based on a stellar senior season at Union and I think he will split some starting time with a UFA stop gap after Brodeur retires. Wedgewood is the ultimate hope in net.

We'll be fine when Lou retires, we'll just replace him with his son and current AHL GM Chris Lamoreillo!

Maybe we'll even draft Marty's son this summer :p

Maybe, but doubt they're planning on it. I can see him coming here as an UFA but I doubt they give up assets to get him via a trade. Especially since the asking price seems to be ridiculously high.

It's crazy though that I've literally never watched a Devils team without Marty for longer than the 40 games he missed a few years back.

Almost unfair that we will have to live on without him when most of us don't even know or remember how life was before him.

I just skipped over the post hadn't even noticed how clever it was. I think some good ribbing is fine and all, but there is some place where you cross the line and this is probably the scenario.
