Sorry, I loathe Marty. I'll make that reference any chance I can get.

Great goalie, sure. The best? Maybe.

But **** him. Go try out for the Canadian Olympic diving team.

silverfish made it all subtle-like.

We can't be expected not to mock Brodeur's personal life. You're placing unrealistic expectations on us, DevilChuk.

Bob Richards post with the :poutine: was gold. I was laughing for a good 10 minutes. That stuff I'm alright with. haha

I don't care much for the fatso/Uncle Daddy/etc. jokes, but that one was ripe for the taking.

Marty was never the best goalie in his era at any point pre lockout (Hasek, Roy) and post lockout (Lundqvist, Luongo). So he's not the top goalie for me of all time.

He reminds me of Jeter. Good, but only homers think he's the greatest.

It's fine by me. Mockery in sports is a sign of flattery and definitely do the same with Rangers players I despise.

Only thing I don't like is when people let off-ice issues define a player's on-ice reputation. Whether Marty, Hasek or Roy were saints off the ice or not is irrelevant when talking about the greatest goalies of all time.

 I just skipped over the post hadn't even noticed how clever it was. I think some good ribbing is fine and all, but there is some place where you cross the line and this is probably the scenario.

My bad, I just hadn't heard a direct Uncle Daddy reference here on a long time. Maybe the playoffs, but even then the mods were probably quick to pounce on it.

Good ribbing is fine, though I find the Uncle Daddy thing pretty stupid considering how long ago that was and how common affairs are among athletes in general. Only difference is Marty got caught and decided to marry the girl.

I'm sure he'd find a way to grab gold there also ;)

All goalies.. heck, all players.. dive. Some just happen to be better at it than others and draw more calls :naughty:

There's really only one blatant dive that Marty has ever pulled IMO and that was with Avery a few years ago at the Rock in the regular season.

29. How important is health? The Canucks lead the NHL with 12 players appearing in every game. Second is a tie between the Kings, Bruins and Penguins (11). Those four teams are a combined 58-26-11. (Chicago led that category until last week.) Worst attendance? Five players from Colorado and Buffalo have appeared in all their team's games. Six for Columbus, Florida and the Rangers. Their combined record is 49-58-19.

30. One more: Chicago and Los Angeles have used the fewest number of players, with 23. Pittsburgh and Montreal are next at 24. Combined: 69-23-9. A ridiculous 11 teams have already dressed 30 or more. The leaders (with 31) are Calgary, Carolina, Florida and New Jersey. Record: 42-41-16. Could be worse. (Thanks to Stan Nieradka for the numbers.)

The Rangers are the only team to be a playoff spot with all of the injuries. Some of the these teams have led a charmed life so far this season.

Lundqvist has only overtaken Marty in the past two years.. c'mon now

I can think of at least one more significant difference.

Yeah, I don't see it as relevant, either. I can't stand Roy or Brodeur as people, but I can't deny they're two of the greatest goalies ever.

I will disagree here.

I was talking strictly in terms of play during that era. From strictly 2005-2013, Luongo and Lundqvist have been better goalies than Brodeur. He was never the best.

2007 and 2008 seem to disagree with you. I'd say he was pretty good then. Hell, he still has enough left in the tank.

I can't believe you're making me do this, Kersh.

Yea, I think there is a better argument as to Brodeur being the best goalie over the length of the last CBA than you're making it out to be.

That's also part of Brodeur's legacy IMO though. He may never have been THE best goalie in the league (I disagree) but he's been up there for close to fifteen years now... not really a feat many others can even come close to.

How about that dive he pulled in the regular season last year at MSG? Anisimov tied it at the last second, but Marty flopped and got it called off. That was a nice dive.

Brodeur post lockout: .913 sv %, 2.33 GAA
Luongo post lockout: .918 sv %, 2.40 GAA
Lundqvist post lockout: .920 sv %, 2.27 GAA

Longevity, while great to have doesn't correlate to the core nucleus of greatness for me. This would mean Mark Messier is the 2nd best player of all time or Derek Jeter is the best SS of all time, both false.

All very similar. Add Marty's two Vezina's and I'd say that edges him easily over Luongo and just enough above Hank (as much as it kills me to say).

True, I guess during that 3 yr time frame, Marty was definitely the best goalie in the league. Looking at a whole in the era, I believe Luongo and Lundqvist have done more for a longer period of time.

I'm now sad that I just defended Marty. He is easily my least favorite hockey player. I hate him more than Crosby.

Why don't you marry him already?

Oh that's right, you're not related.

:deadhorse:

The only horse beating going on around here is anyone that punches Dubinsky in the face.

In a one game, all or nothing scenario, I'd probably take Patrick Roy over anyone else. Hasek next.

Call me crazy, but I'd take Marty any day of the week. He's played in Olympic finals, SCF game 7 against Giguere, he out-dueled Lundqvist in the biggest series for this team since 1997 and many many others to add to his list of accolades.

The only way to counter Marty is by playing Richter though. :P

Lundqvist does have the greatest goalie performance I've ever seen though with his game against Vancouver last year.

We got out-shot like 41-0 and somehow won 4-0.
