Around the NHL: Part **** 3-point games

Having ten losses essentially equal five wins is the problem in my mind, regardless of whether it was in OT or a shootout.

Sure, but the rules are the same for everyone. Unfortunately for us, we don't excel at losing in OT...and if you are going to lose, it's far better to do so after 60 minutes.

Loser point?

The skills competition point is the problem not the point for the tie...ties have always been part of hockey...

I still keep seeing these kind of posts.

The whole reason why shootouts replaced ties wasn't because games were ending in ties but how teams played in OT: scared. Teams did not want the other team to get another point so they played blase. Only if the team had a PP or their backs were up against a wall with regards to the standings did teams want to attempt to play offensive hockey.

I have no problems with another 5 minute OT. As a matter of fact, just make the OT 10 minutes. Get rid of these "smart penalties:" a team commits a penalty with only 3 seconds left in OT, have the ensuing PP be the remainder of the OT. Actually, they should also do the same if a team commits a penalty with only a few seconds left in the 3rd.

So rather than have a SO the NHL should have put more incentive in winning in OT, instead of implementing a flawed SO, though that mey be what they wanted because all of these 3 point games are keeping teams in the hunt that probably would not have been in the past.

But lets take a look at some numbers.

G ROW Pct
Devils 15 13 .866
Rangers 20 16 .800

Who the hell is Lauridsen and how the hell did he eat punches from Kaleta? Guy had the chance to do what almost everyone in the NHL wants to do to Kaleta and he gets his ass kicked.

I've been suggesting this for years. No reason OT should ever end with a power play ongoing.

So, here I am, watching BUF vs PHi, supposing there'd be many goals, because the teams can't play defense. Problem is, they can't play offense too.

I really hope that Philly loses so there's no illusion that Tuesday's game will be important for them.

everyone thinks its the players but management needs to be blamed for the Flyers struggles...

Flyers management trades Richards and he wins a cup. Flyers trade Sergei Bobrovsky and turns out to be a solid number 1 goalie... Flyers give Ilya Bryzgalov a big contract and since he has been on the Flyers he has been horrible.. Flyers management has made some dumb decisions as of late.. i would have kept Bobrovsky over Bryzgalov.. he is cheaper younger and a better goalie...

Well, you have to compare the two. You invest all that money in Bryz, they're probably going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Also, this season Bob is having, no one expected. He really wasn't that good last season.....at all.

that is true but he is also 24 and has time to improve. id rather take that chance than have an overpaid vet who talks more than stops the puck :help:

lol. The fact that Bob is having this brilliant season and then Philly trades for Steve Mason. Glorious really.

Caught the end of the Columbus game. Dubinsky-Prospal-Gaborik line for the Broadway Blue-Jackets.

Really rooting for them to make the playoffs.

I've always been a proponent of a 10 min OT, but never thought about what you speak of.
Very good point, and I completely agree.
