A big problem with Philly's offense is their only two puck moving d-men, Timonen and Streit, are older than dirt.

Streit is 35. Old, yes, but not ancient. The little I've seen of Timonen this season, it looks to me like his skating has finally taken that downward turn, though. On a D that already has mobility issues, that's not gonna help.

Can't say much for the Rangers situation (yet) but I won't hesitate to point out that Philly has started the season 0-3 and has only scored 3 goals. I would have figured their offense would have had a much better showing than this after the first 3 games.

Their a bad ES strength team. Coaching, system, transition, etc. They lack a true #1 d-man and their 2 puck-moving d-men (Streit and Timonen) aren't that good anymore. Their forwards aren't very good defensively either. I know Philly fans love to talk about good defensively Couturier is (calling him elite, which I disagree with), but the fact that he was as a rookie their best defensive forward says a lot to me. And Giroux isn't a top 5 center/forward/player like some try to make him seem.

They look terrible. But it's only the beginning of the season, so who knows.

Watching the Canucks game via stream...

Dear god, BORING... Can't believe the Rangers used to play like this...

I know its a bit too soon (game 3?), but still... such a boring game, especially on their end...

Speaking of which, Flames just scored. Nucks down 2-1.

Did you watch them yesterday? Even though the score was way lopsided in their favor, that was a pretty entertaining game. The Sedins were on fire.

for a team that's supposed to go like 5-77 Calgary has really been putting up a good fight against good teams.

They scored 11 goals in the last two games....how is that boring?

They are slowly adapting Torts style. They'll dry up before too long.

Calgary has something to prove they're going to surprise a few teams.

This.. they are just playing on a high because of new blood and a new season, nucks fans will hate Torts by mid season.

Flyers will be a mess this season. Never understood when some were saying that they improved. Their goaltending and D are just as bad as previous years.

Looks like Laviolette is getting canned.

Yes. Can we fire AV and hire him right away, or will be have to wait until the end of the year to fire AV, then hire him?

He won't last long...and neither will AV

How is this his fault? They are constructed SO poorly.

I'm not wholly sold on Lavy's coaching (though I like his system slightly more than Torts'), but this crappy team is all on Holmgren.

And three games, really? Not nearly enough of a sample to bulid such a decision on. Either fire him in the offseason or give him ~20 games at least. This just screams horrible management, which is hardly surprising when you think about it.

Laviolette pretty much got scapegoated. I had to lol when I watched the NHL.com predictions and they had PIT and PHI in a dogfight for the division. The defense isn't good, goaltending is an eternal issue and they have what, 3 forwards who are good defensively.
Lavi is a good coach, he'll have no troubles finding a new spot.

Laviolette only knows how to coach one way...go balls out offense and hope your goalie bails you out. He won a cup with Carolina that way (if you remember Carolina's D was pretty terrible at actually playing D but Cam Ward was lights out in the playoffs)

Not coincidentally that is a huge reason why the Flyers have struggled in a general sense recent years. Their D can't move the puck well enough to help push the pace with their forwards like Lavvy wanted, and honestly aren't good enough defensively to just be sitting back and shutting things down, and their goaltending just isn't good enough in general

Lavvy didn't have a good roster to work with but he really isn't much with adapting his coaching style either.
