Ben Kuzma: It will take more than Karlsson rumour to fix Canucks’ pop-gun defence

“It’s an area we’ve talked about all summer,” stressed Benning. “How are we going to get our defence more involved in the offence?”

The Canucks’ Brandon Sutter battles Bruins defenceman Torey Krug in a February 2017 game. Krug is among blue-liners drawing interest from other clubs while still under contract.

Haha!

You gotta admit that it's a bit ridiculous that the same story gets written every year about him.

He's Quinny's issue to deal with and I won't be shocked to see him in the dog house sooner rather than later.

I get the feeling that most Ranger fans are like "Why's he still on the team?"

Boston wasn't a great fit for his skillset at center. They (rightfully IMO) value a more two-way style of play from their centers. He doesn't excel at wing because he is not a physical player who plays along the walls. Not that every wing needs this element but for him it seemed to be an issue. Put him in a different system and put him at center and I think the potential is there. He could be a 55-60 points mid-low end 2nd line center who piles up points on the powerplay at his best IMO.

Maybe I'm wrong but I just think the guy needed a real opportunity at his position. I won't miss him terribly but I did think he was a good kid who I'd like to stick around the league.

Every team now requires their Centers to be capable all 200 ft, especially down low in their own zone. That isn't exclusive to Boston or any number of teams.

Yes but to varying degrees. What a center is resposabile for in a system like Boston is much more than what the Islanders were running last season.

Wow, the hate is strong with this one. I wish Spooner well.
Not really, I'm just incredibly sick of the Spooner narrative that's been on this board for years. He's a top 9 guy, and certainly not a center.

Not exactly a guy to care about anymore.
