What about defense and goaltending. I'd hardly say given you're cumulative cap vs. needs, that your cap space is "not an issue at all right now."
Trading Mezsaros doesn't exactly make your situation better nor does trading Coburn.
They'll have about $5 million in space (at least) to make some sort of move on the blueline and in net. It's shaky for sure. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the Flyers are going to win the Cup this year. But the cap is not the problem. If it were me, I'd probably give Mason a shot to regain his form and sign a backup for around $1 million. As far as defense goes, your guess is as good as mine. I don't think the defense could possibly as bad as it was last year, and I think Bryz's awfulness made the defense look worse than it actually was. I'm not too sure anything is going to be done at this point (outside of dealing Mezaros for peanuts), but the addition of Streit helps a little.
But again, even if the defense sucks and Mason craps out, the cap isn't the issue. The Flyers will have space to add either via trade of UFA. Here is a possible lineup for this coming year:

Wellwood has to stay on the cap because he is injured, but at some point that $500k will come off the books during the year. I picked a backup and gave him $1 million, but that could very well be higher or lower. Gagne at $2.5 is probably pretty accurate. So with all that said and done, going into the season there is over $5 million in cap space. That leaves $5 million or so at the deadline to make a deal for a defender, or $5 million to sign someone prior to the season (though there really isn't much out there). And again, I'm not saying this team is going to win the Cup, only that the Cap is not an issue.
