I like how they immediately suck when they get out of the ****** west and into the east. :D

Dont know how that makes much sense considering the west is the better conference.

I think it has a lot more to do with the team getting older and (finally) having difficulty replenishing their system -- they had a wild run of success for almost 20 years. That couldn't go on forever. Similar things are happening with the Devils.

The Red Wings decline really started in 2012. Bowed out to the Predators in 5 games (I thought the Preds would win the series, but not that quickly). And lost Lidstrom, in addition to losing Rafalski the year before.

Then BARELY made the playoffs, and beat a Bruce Boudreau (cursed) Ducks team in 7 games, then choked away the Blackhawks series. Now who they really are is on display. They're an old team that really lacks in NHL ready youth.

They can win in the playoffs on experience alone, they've just been there so many times it's second nature to them.

But they have a hard time getting there. Jimmy Howard REALLY bailed them out of a **** season last year, and the Ducks series where they were very outplayed. If Corey Perry showed up, at all, the Red Wings would've been toast.

With Howard not having a great season, and the veterans getting OLDER, they're going to decline. I see them missing the playoffs entirely, tbh. They're very much treading water because of loser points.

Funny though that they thought Alfredsson (almost done as an NHL'er) and Weiss (sucks.) were going to help them destroy the east. It's just nice to see them humbled.

NHL just signed a huge 12 year 5.2B deal with Rogers in Canada.

5.2M / 12 years / 30 teams x 50% for the players share is $7.2M to the Cap. Then have to back out the value of their existing Canadian tv deal to get incremental revenue and therefore incremental cap $.

Still, pretty big. Think I read that now total annual NHL TV revenue is within $200k of the NBA.

Klesla waived by Phoenix. Not saying we should get him but I think he's still a serviceable player. Cap hit just under $3. I know he's dealt with injuries but I still think he's an NHL player. Wonder if anyone puts in a claim. (Edmonton, Islanders?)

Apparently the league is getting $40 million/year this year. They will be getting $433 million/year starting next year. So that would make about a $6.5 million increase in the cap from the current deal.

Don't think that will be added to the cap for two seasons though (2015-16 season).

Sportsnet reporting here in Canada that it`s 7M to the teams. If it`s 7M to the teams, it`s 7M to the players, right?? So, the cap is going to 71.3M next year as I type this?? This might be an oversimplification on my part, though.

Regardless, this is a BIG deal - 433.33M a year for 12 years. For comparison purposes, it would be like IF FOX had broadcasting to ALL NFL games in the USA.

The amount the cap goes up is the amount this deal pays more than the last deal pays. I don't know what the terms of the expiring deals were. I'll try to find out.

It was 40M per year (including this year), Tawnos. That`s why I questioned the number that SportsNet threw out there: 7M, being the increase.

See my post above. TSN is paying $40/year for their portion. I'm assuming the numbers are similar from CBC. To be conservative let's put it at a combined $100 million/year. That still adds over $6 million to the cap.

It will not be reflected in the cap until the 2015-16 season.

Thanks for clarifying, I was curious about that. That is a big increase.

And this is just the revenue from TV in Canada. What about the other revenue streams???

I think the NHL TV contract in the US gets reflected in the cap next season. That is why they are saying the cap is going to go up to around $70 million next season.

Not 100% on that one though. Rangerboy would know better then I.

TSN's deal was for $40m, but CBC's was closer to $100m. In addition, the first year of this deal pays ~$300m and not $433m. That number goes up over the life of the contract, topping out around $500m. So... this is the math as I understand it right now for the first year of the deal:

Expiring deals: TSN $40m + CBC $100m = $140m
First year pay out: $300m
Increase: $160m
Avg Increase revenue per team: $160m/30 = $5.33m
Increase on salary cap per team: $5.33m*50% = $2.67m

By the way, that the real # revenue of this deal apparently goes up every year means that the Cap increases are pretty likely to continue.

I'm so jealous of Dallas's forwards. Nichushkin looks amazing. Benn and Seguin are awesome. I'd pretty much take any of those 3 over any forward on the Rangers. And maybe any player other than McDonagh.

The Nichushkin/Seguin/Benn line is a ton of fun to watch.

Jealous of all the talent they have at forward.

Dallas just had their way with the ducks for 4 straight goals in the 3rd.

makes me cry less inside knowing the rangers actually put away a team that can do that .

Man. Dallas is such a fun team to watch. All throughout their lineup they're young and fast.

Their fourth line just ripped apart the current best team in the NHL. Nothing short of very impressive.

I'm very jealous.

Just saw that the new Sportsnet deal will give each NHL team $14.5Mn annually. Don't know how it will translate to the salary cap, but as many have said, it will increase substantially starting next year.

Another interesting piece of information, is that the deal between the NHL and NBC/NBC Sports was for $2Bn over 10 years and this deal is for $5.2Bn over 12 yrs. With Canadian teams accounting for 7 of 30 franchises or 23% of teams, this Canadian deal will account for 72% of the total TV revenues for the NHL.

I just hope that Sportsnet can do a decent job of televising games. Rogers (******** that they are) is chock full of money, and I hope they get the best. I hope Don Cherry is shut out.
