I thought he was properly rated. If you're going to compare players, can you at least attempt to make it fair of the comparison? Like, I don't know, Cozens of where they are in their careers?

Casey has 3 seasons on Zegras, and interesting enough, his game just started to around 3 seasons ago. Casey in his 1st-4th NHL seasons, I'll easily take Zegras over him. Now, Casey, while maybe not as talented as Zegras, has an overall better two-way game. But there's plenty of time for Zegras to learn that side of the game. And for the record, I would definitely compare Casey and Trevor as prospects and the potential of what they could be.
He’s not what the team needs.. and how can you compare mittelstadt to Zegras at this time; one’s flirting with PPG the other player is sub .50

That could be true.

The Sabres could use a game breaking scorer who can still score when games get tight. Zegras is that type of player, acknowledging that the team needs a lot more grit.

A Zegras move would have to be in combination with other moves.

Eg: use assets to-

- trade for Zegras
- trade for Brady Tkachuk
- trade for Coleman and Weegar

Zegras has 3 goals and 7 points in 20 games this season, with a career high last year of 65 in 81. Where are you seeing a game-breaking scorer?

And that's fine about Zegras not being what the team needs and I'm not arguing if he is or not. For some reason, you felt that you needed to compare two players at different points in their career, as well as being used in different roles and matchups. Still not sure why you used Casey there.

But let's look at the numbers. For each other careers, Zegras would be flirting with a .73 while Casey is flirting with a .55 for his career. For further comparison, Casey's first 200 games; Casey was at a .43 PPG mark (85 points in 200 games). Since his 200 game mark Casey's been at a .77 PPG mark. This being his 7th NHL season. Zegras, again, is in his 4th NHL season. Plenty of room and time for Zegras to develop into a good player.

Zegras is not that guy. Plus, the Sabres need more 200 foot guys and Zegras really is not that guy.

And while I would love guys like Tkachuk and Weegar, I just don't buy that they will be available.
Bolded: which is why I've starting looking at prospect trades.

His production hasn't been there, but in terms of skill set, he's the type of center who can open up a tight game with his skating/vision/shot/passing/stickhandling skill set.

And to add to @Chainshot pointing out that Marek's rooting interest in the Sabres, notice the RJ Way sign on the bookshelf.

I'm interested to hear what Danny says about a miscommunication in contract negotiations souring a player on returning to their right's holder and wanting to go elsewhere. He certainly had a tempest with the team president being unwilling to budge on a fourth year back in the day that put Danny out the door at the same time as Drury. And of course, Drury went from wanting to stay to not wanting to stay... leaving the Sabres claiming they were blindsided by it.

in hindsight Briere was the only one they should have kept back then

If things really blew up because they didn't want to sign him at the end of last season because of the bonus overage...

That whole debacle played out the way that I called it.

I had the feeling that Briere was more committed to staying than Drury was. But, Drury's leadership made him management's priority despite my expectation that Briere had way more tread on his tires.

That is just one of those "if we could go back in time and change a management decision the Sabres made" situations. And it's right up there with the Peca debacle for me.

And yet the team president hated him and they would not make the move to extend him. Danny said he would have taken 4 years but Buffalo never moved off 3 by design. Danny was looking for 5x5 and he loved it in town. Quinn hated him and even said shit about him around the team staff but Danny was still game to stay.

Anyway, it's interesting to me to see Philly fans on the other end of this when it's happened to their favor. And the reaction is as one would expect - vilification - and certainly way too overblown - death threats - and yet their team identity for years was due to a couple of guys wanting out of their respective teams and getting it.
