Habs just got Michael Ryder for Erik Cole. Wow Habs are so much better after this trade! Ryder scored 35 goals last year and Cole is going down hill this year. They get to dump Coles contract as well, and Ryder is UFA after this year.

Now they just need Halak back and our favorite trade proposal can return!

Minnesota trailing the Flames 1-0 with under 8 mins left and Calgary on the PP. If the Wild keep sputtering, I could see them canning Yeo and looking at Lindy.

Cal Clutterbuck, I choose you!

If anyone wants to see one of the worst goaltending performance of the season, check out Bobrovsky last night against Dallas. My goodness.

The Ducks broadcasters were talking about the Gaustad-Getzlaf rivalry dating back to a few years ago when they went back and forth a few times during the Sabres-Ducks games (Ducks playing Preds right now). Remember those epic Western Conference battles we had with the Ducks, Sharks, Kings, etc? God, I miss the Western road trip this year :(

I wonder if LA would have any interest in Stafford with Gagne getting moved out?

Stafford & Enroth for Bernier and a 3rd perhaps?

Stafford's not scoring goals right now, but we'd have to get another top-6 wing in UFA if we make this deal. It'd be unreasonable to expect Tropp or a 20 year-old Armia to take on that role next season. (As you can see, I expect little from Leino.)

I'd prefer to collect a couple 2nd rounders in deals for Regehr and Leo, and then flip them for Bernier. Besides draft pedigree, I don't see how Bernier warrants a higher price than Nashville got for Lindback--essentially, picks 37 and 50 for Lindback and a 7th rounder--and you could probably even argue Lindback's Nashville pedigree and size negates any advantages Bernier's draft position has.

I said it a few weeks ago, if Darcy sees a good package for Miller and thinks he can nab a future starter, Bernier seems to be right up his alley. He loves draft pedigree, and Bernier was, at one time, a name brand. Assuming Toronto wishes to proceed with Reimer/Scrivens, and assuming further that LAK would like to send Bernier east, I think the only other EC teams who are in need of a future starter are NJ and possibly Philly (if they buy out Bryz).

While you might not pay a premium for a former 1st rounder, too many GMs will.

It's just the facts of the situation.

I would be surprised if LA accepted a Lindback-esque package for Bernier.

Plus, Bernier has more NHL experience and slightly better numbers than Lindback did when he was dealt.

And as an aside, I'm done with Stafford AND Leino.

Which is why we saw Lindback and Boborovsky go for 2nd round picks and several teams who had struggling goalies last year leave their tandems untouched while Bernier stayed in LA, despite supposedly asking for a trade, this past summer?

If any of the league's GMs were infatuated with his draft position, he would've been moved already. Fact is he's small, he plays in behind a team that's been very good defensively in his tenure there, and he hasn't put up eye-popping numbers.

Perhaps. At the same time, they may be waiting for awhile. Bernier was one of the lowest rated goaltenders last season. It's possible his good start this season has rehabilitated his value. It's possible some GMs want to see much more.

What EC teams do you think would pay a premium for him? Most of the teams have more proven starters already (NYR-Lundqvist; MTL-Price; BOS-Rask; BUF-Miller; OTT-Anderson (w/Bishop and Lehner in the wings); CAR-Ward; PIT-Fleury), young starters already in the fold (WSH-Holtby; TB-Lindback; OTT-Lehner; FLA- Markstrom) or have financially committed themselves to other goaltenders (PHI-Bryz; WPG- Pavelec (will be in WC soon, too)).

Based on my assumption of TOR sticking with their current two-headed monster for now, I'm just unsure who'd give up a big package of assets for Bernier.

Who knows if LA wanted to move him.

I'm guessing that they set the bar pretty high and didn't get an offer that made them go "we HAVE to make this deal".

You can argue he's not worth what LA is asking. I'm just saying that I doubt you get him for what Lindback or Bob moved for is all.

NYI, NJD, Cbus, and a few others could potentially be in on him.

But, who really knows...

NYI makes some sense, though I doubt Snow would give up a high 1st rounder who'd produce on the cheap for that cheapskate organization. Maybe something around Nino. NJD makes sense, as well. We will see.
