I think it may be Murray partially overvaluing Lehner. His idea that he's a "5+ or 6" goalie, meant he was ok with giving up the 1st. In actuality, Lehner's true value to the rest of the league right now was probably our pick 51.

The real question now is if Gibson goes to the Oilers, what that price could be

Lehner is his guy. I bet he had a great say in drafting him. He then won an AHL championship with him, Lehner MVP.

This is his goalie. I get it. Hope he is right about him.

What was this about? I didn't get to pay attention to any draft stuff today.

After the draft.. Pens brass was only team left on floor. Seemed their debriefing of draft couldnt wait to get back to team hotel or something.

Obviously a rift of some sort going on.

Edit: Just makes me laugh because I see Rutherford as a clown show. Kind of reaffirms my beliefs.

Pronger to Arizona. What a joke. I feel somewhat for Coyote fans because we endured some dark days in 02-03 but this is a joke. If they can't ice a competitive team and have to rely on **** like this then they are better off moved to a worthy market.

Pronger with 2 years left at 525k of actual salary. Can anyone explain how he works in regard to the cap/floor and how much he counts for? I know the Isles did this with Tim Thomas. I just don't understand how a guy on LTIR who has said will never play again can even be traded.

Pronger's cap hit is the same as it has been for Philly. Nathan Horton is also injured and might never play again and he was recently traded.

Arizona is going to be such a **** show dumpster fire next year that they needed to take on Pronger's contract just to circumvent the cap floor. Could you imagine the backlash Buffalo would have received if we went into 2014-2015 doing that? There wont be a single peep about it in 7 months when Arizona is gunning for Matthews.

I think Arizona still needs Hodgson's cap hit, for a 5th.

Of course it is. I'm asking how much does he account for on Arizonas cap if he is on LTIR the whole season.

There's a difference between Horton and Pronger. Horton recently signed that deal and has atleast a 1% chance of returning. Pronger is over 40, hasn't played for years and Philly literally said he would never play again. This is a joke of a trade and Arizona is an embarrassment.

LTIR does not affect a player's cap hit in any way. What LTIR does is it allows teams to exceed the salary cap. In Arizona's case, they most likely won't be placing Pronger on LTIR as they will most likely not be anywhere near the upper limit.

From the perspective of rules and such, there is no difference between Horton and Pronger. Both are injured but on valid NHL SPCs. Neither is likely to even play again in the NHL, but that in itself is not relevant from the perspective of what's allowed. The issue that's really a joke is that he's able to hold a position in the league offices while under contract to an NHL team.

Random thought....

Saw an article about Eric Staal coming up for extension. Talk about someone just collecting checks at this point in total anonymity. 23 goals, 54 points, playing for a ****ty team that doesn't have much hope of getting better, making $8.25 million this year and will probably get a RAISE in his next deal because Carolina has to pay someone.

Remember when that guy was a good player on a decent team? Me neither. Now he's not even the 3rd best player in his own family.

Keep getting them checks, big fella.

In slight defense of Staal, that whole organization has been mailing it in since 2006. They rode the wave of their cushy circumstances back then and simply try to make the black with a fair-weather fan base. The entire roster knows the deal so...

It really is baffling given how Lindy handles goalies. Barring an injury, one of those goalies is gonna play 60+ games. Thats just the way he rolls.

Yup. Nill talking about how you need to have a two goalie system in the league nowadays is pretty funny. Do you not know who your coach is?

Dayum, LA just terminated Richards contract rather than a buyout.

NHLPA vs LA fight incoming.

Who knows what they think Richards did, but is it worse than the guy who (allegedly) beat his wife (and seemingly has a small mountain of evidence against him on this allegation)?
