With Lucic trade, Kings won't be able to sign Andrej Sekera so he'll hit the market. It was a major consideration for them. They like him.

We came dead last in the goaltending arms race. Good lord Tim f'd up.

His lack of patience bit him there IMO.

While ecstatic with yesterday as a whole, it only cost a 3rd and 7th (next year) for Lack? Seems like we overpaid for Lehner. I'd take Lack over him.

I'm not defending Murray on this one, but in his post-draft presser, he talked about two things related to this. (1) That he and his team spend a huge amount of time assigning value to the assets they target, and what they will give up for them, and (2) that he considered Lehner to be the best goalie available, and got him.

So like it or not (or believe it or not, but considering it was the first goalie trade, I believe it) Murray believes he got exactly what he wanted and paid a price that didn't put the team in a vulnerable position (i.e. he didn't pay too much).

The other thing is that Lack doesn't fit the wheelhouse of what the team is trying to accomplish. He's one year away from UFA while Lehner is one year away from RFA and is closer to the target age range.

Personally, Lack fits what I think they should have done, but I'm not the GM.

Lack is 28. Lehner is 24.

I would rather have 5 years of a better goalie than 9 years of a goalie that has a lot left to be desired.

Statistically Lehner hasn't been great. Despite the fact people always talk about later developing goalies, there is little that proves it.

I think it may be Murray partially overvaluing Lehner. His idea that he's a "5+ or 6" goalie, meant he was ok with giving up the 1st. In actuality, Lehner's true value to the rest of the league right now was probably our pick 51.

The real question now is if Gibson goes to the Oilers, what that price could be

There is such an abundance of goalies right now.. not sure they needed to throw away a 1st round pick .. this trade will be a head scratcher for a bit.. thank goodness the bruins traded away hamilton for picks to shine the light on another bad trade
