Fold the Sabres and try it again.

I remember the interview Cam and Strick did with Patrik Berglund maybe about a year ago where he spoke about how he didn't want to be dealt to Buffalo under any circumstances and that's what ended up happening to him behind his back. He played for them for a few games and then just quit the NHL altogether, giving up millions of dollars every year. That's how bad it is there, that someone would rather forfeit millions of dollars in salary rather than play for that organization.

The Rangers have fallen so hard they're nearly in Penguins territory in points and point percentage. Oof.

Have to assume they fire Lavy soon and right the ship. Otherwise we'll see something weird like Philly or even the Pens making it and that would be high comedy. Or perhaps more likely Atlantic sends 5 with Ottawa getting in.

Yeah, I think between the age of their core, no real young guns coming in, Shesterkin making $11.5M AAV moving forward, etc., the Rangers are gonna fall off a cliff in the next couple years.

They’re in the 2016-2017 era again where they fell off a cliff after their SCF appearance

They look like they’re done. They’ve been running this group back (under different coaches) for awhile now. Maybe they retool to remain a playoff team, but their window closed. Gallant and Lavy were hired to get immediate results, and the furthest they got was the ECF.

Yeah, if Kakko and Lafreniere lived up to their pre-draft hype, that team's in a hell of a lot better place. Those two not really working out as planned f***ed the team big time.

Reiterating that in 2020, the Sabres had Eichel, Reinhart, Dahlin, Thompson, Mittlestadt, Rodrigues, and McCabe and simply needed a real coach + smart moves around the edges and patience and they would have become a good team.

Gonna guess the Rags mgmt thought threatening to trade the locker room leaders was gonna galvanize them but apparently that isn’t a good call

Hatty for Patty Laine. Dude is back to being a game changing sniper. Who would have thought the problem was the Columbus Blue Jackets?

So happy we could have gotten him for free/paid to take him but got Kevin Hayes instead. Dubas is really good at this retooling thing.

I don't think CBJ would've traded him to the Penguins.
I’m sure they would have preferred not to, but they really wanted out of that deal. They also sent a 2nd to Montreal and got a mediocre depth D back. If we just offered a 4th with no pick coming back it would have been quite a bit more value overall for them. Who knows.

There’s no way Sully would have gone for that anyways. He probably legitimately thinks Hayes is a better player to this day. Laine would be hanging out with Poolparty on Finn island in the press box.

I love it when people overreact to a player having a big night......
7 pts in 7 games since coming back from over a full calendar year off from playing hockey due to injury/player assistance program.

Laine is the guy we should have targeted if Dubas is serious about trying to remain competitive while building for the future. Would have kept Sid and Geno happy as they could rack up pts on the PP as Laine would be a legitimate difference maker.
