To Pittsburgh: Kreider
To NYR: Pettersson and Acciari

Inter-conference proposal, I know.

NYR gets out of a longer term deal for an underperforming star and add an asset they can either keep or flip for futures at the deadline. Penguins bet that Kreider's slump is short term and that his size, speed, and goal scoring will work with Malkin. Acciari added for cap purposes, but he's been solid in his role this year.

Rangers pass.

Also:

Intra-conference... intra-division.

"Inter" means "between"
"Intra" means "within"

What's the point of the Penguins doing this? They're rebuilding and trading their best trade chip for a soon to be 34 year old powerforward with a terrible contract.

I don't even know that I'd take Kreider for free with his level of play this year. 11 points in 28 games, turning 34 in April and signed for 3 years at $6.5 million? Combine that with his playstyle and how players of his type tend to fall off huge cliffs rapidly, I wouldn't touch that contract for free.

I wanted Kreider on the Pens around 2015, but that time has long passed. Better to trade our best trade chips for youth and futures than old players. We have enough of those

Gross. This does nothing for the Rangers.

This proposal makes me angrier than it should. One of the worst possible routes Dubas could go down.

The only reclamation projects the Penguins should even momentarily consider are significantly younger and cheaper than Kreider. Giving up our best trade chip to acquire him is just madness.

Love the player Krieder has been. Pens killer for a long time. But this doesn't make sense for us now and I don't think it does for NYR either. Pettersson is a rental out week to week atm and the Rangers are going to need help right now to save their season. By the time Pettersson comes back they could be securely out of the playoff race.
