Pretty odd when a member of the media feels the need to come to a GM's defence for no apperant reason.
Mirtle didn't defend Dubas. He didn't even mention Dubas. He's a hockey reporter commenting on a hockey award, and he said that Tampa, Colorado, or Vegas should have won, not Toronto.

Mirtle is Dubas' BFF. Lou was GM before Dubas and Leaf there is a clear Dubas vs Lou debate here and in the media lately. 1+1 = 2. Honest question, have any other media people made similar comments about this insignificant award ??

Yeah saw that. Pretty odd when a member of the media feels the need to come to a GM's defence for no apperant reason.

Yep, that's just strange...trying to refute an award winner who was voted by most of his own peers.

Yes. Greg Wyshynski at ESPN said it should have gone to Sakic or Briesbois for example.

If you use Twitter a number of writers have discussed it. Mirtle is hardly doing anything unique here.

Seems like a lot of assumptions that aren't really supported by anything. He made a hockey comment on a hockey matter as a hockey reporter. He had an opinion that is widely shared, and didn't mention Dubas at all. It's not so much 1+1=2; it's more like 2x+86^5y=let's just make stuff up.

I don’t think Mirtle is doing anything wrong, as he is not the only one saying so and so deserves it more and this applies to all awards over the past years. Every year, there were posts, tweets and articles about so and so is more deserving for GM, Coach... award.
Just so happened this year Lou won, Mirtle did the same thing and people link this to Dubas being petty.
It is an award for being GM of the Year. It is like the ESPY.

Every Leaf fan knows Mirtle is Dubas' mouth piece. As such it is not a stretch to think what his motive might be whether it be true or not.

Some of his stuff does sound like a club press release. If he is mostly passing along what he is being fed word for word he may not be a mouth piece, he is just afraid to mess with the information in case they get annoyed and turn off his tap. The first time I heard him I thought he was a Leaf pr guy.

I'm rooting for Tampa at this point.

Can't cheer for the Islanders even though Uncle Leo is there. Islanders fans made their team unlikable to me with all the Tavares whining and over the top Leafs bashing because of hurt feelings.

Too bad because otherwise it'd be cool to see the Islanders do something impressive for once, something I hope the Leafs can do someday while I'm still alive.

Tampa Dallas final?

Fits with 2020 being the shittiest year imaginable in every way.

The Isles aside, Tampa is the superior team, with the best players and most skill.

It's better for the sport/league that the best team wins. Teams should be rewarded for doing the right things for getting to where they are

Islanders are so inept when they are not in their turtle position. They should not even be in playoffs. As far as I concern, only three teams are playing hockey now.

Agreed, but we all love an underdog story. Just tough when the underdog is the yippiest one in the pen.

I definitely get that, (and this isn't directed at you) but I see folks constantly complain about how there's too much parity in the league, yet at the same time love seeing the better team lose in the playoffs which to me is contradictionary

I don’t really agree with this? He has called a lot of things (ie Matthews captain) that didn’t happen.

if anything. CJ seems to be. But he also was on the Matthews train.

Ignoring the wierd accusations that someone made against Mirtle, whether it's a desperation shot at Dubas, not sure but man some of these Dubas critics need to find another hobby.
Anyways, Tampa really is putting it all together at the right time. Now a win away.

Right, but it's likely more about their GM.

Vegas have been the better team in terms of offense/chances on the other side, but I'm sensing less care around here for that result.
