I always cheer for the Penguins unless they're playing the Rangers (or otherwise directly affecting the Rangers seed for the playoffs).

I really enjoyed the 2010 finals.

I'm sorry, but why would you ever cheer for that whiny, tanking, diving, lucky-ass franchise?

Just wondering.

First of all, I think that stuff is all in the eye of the beholder. Cally "whines" and dives as much as Crosby does. But we like it when he does it. Secondly, I don't begrudge "tanking" because I think that teams that rebuild that way should be commended. It's a tough road with few guarantees and the fans suffer through it. Just look at the Panthers. Third, why would I begrudge luck? I'm not a jealous person, and that's all it would be.

And lastly, and obviously most importantly, my brother-in-law is a Penguins fan.

No we don't.... (Atleast I don't)

Lolwut...I don't think I've ever seen someone cheer for their own player diving. Make excuses? Yes. Cheer for it? No.

Crosby has toned down the whining, but I have yet to see Callahan whine about hats being thrown onto the ice after the opposition has completed a hat trick.

I don't think that losing should be rewarded with Crosby and Malkin falling out of the sky for you.

Oh, but I can't wait until the penguins decline, tank on purpose, and go on to draft the next big superstar. It's happened with Lemieux, Jagr, Cindy, and Shrek. It'll happen again. Seeing the bruins shut them down was glorious.

But if you have family ties to the team, then it makes sense.

By make excuses, you mean that we call it gamesmanship. Which is a positive term, and therefore something we like. There isn't another excuse.

And actually, I should've pointed out that the vast, vast majority of whining and diving done by players of our own team simply gets ignored.

Oh, I forgot about Mario whining about the league not doing enough to avoid headshots while writing checks to Matt Cooke.

Then your problem is the system the league employs. Why be upset with the Penguins for taking advantage of it? That just smacks of jealousy.

Using the bully pulpit to try to change the game while acting within the current framework of the game isn't hypocrisy like most think it is.

You're not actually trying to argue that Matt Cooke isn't the dirtiest headhunting POS in the league, are you?

When Crosby broke into the league, he was still a kid.
Okay, let's let that ride a bit.

When he was punching a Florida Panther player in the gonads, I lost respect for him. Seriously. I already did not like Lemieux's shenanigans, so it just went from there.

I still don't like that franchise, and I actively hope they fail. I think that is a pretty normal stance, many people I know feel the same.

To be honest, I tend to try to look at players from the point of view of their team's fans, rather than my own. Overall, Cooke has been great for the Penguins, so they can forgive him for some of his misdeeds. Most Rangers fans would, too, if he were a member of their team. They did when Ulfie was here. They did when Avery was here.

Hockey player's a hockey player.

 Avery? you mean the guy who was never suspended for an on-ice incident? Yeah...real dirty player.

Ended Savard's career, could have easily ended McDonagh's career with his antics. But if you're going to defend Matt Cooke's headhunting pedigree, then I'm done here.

Avery certainly knew how to toe the line far better than Cooke. But there's a reason why most of the league hated him.

I'm not defending anything. Read it again.

I liked Avery very much. I disliked Ulf Samuelsson, and I was very okay when he was no longer a Ranger. I really did not respect him.

Yeah. Most of th league hated him because of his loud mouth.

Cooke can PK and grind without trying to elbow heads in the process.

I just think its very hypocritical that Mario can whine to the league about it not doing enough, and continue to sign his checks. And don't give me the **** about Cooke being a changed man, because I've seen enough of him over the last two years to know its not true.

But Mario probably just keeps him around because that's one less headhunting neandrathal that can target Crosby's mushed brains.
