Gee, it sure worked out great for Tipp to let Schmitty get shelled for 5, instead of yanking him after 3.

Is Tipp gonna keep dragging Smitty over to ruin every team he ends up working for? Is he going to trade for, and re-sign Mike Smith when he’s 45?

He's the only Coyote goalie to ever win a playoff series.

P.s. ...and the only one to score a goal.

He should have been yanked after 3, but leaving him in to start the second in a five game series was criminal.

Tipp continues to clutch "his" guys like a security blanket.

I’d have no problem with Smith had he left the franchise gracefully. But he had to take the shot. Our thank you for pulling his career out of the gutter.
I think the schtick got old here before he left. He was great in his contract year, then a few mediocre years, and one really bad one in the middle.

He either steals games or loses them. He has more <.88 games than >.91 games, but his averages always look decent because when he's on, he's near unbeatable.

Mostly I got tired of the diving and glares at teammates. For a guy that lays that many eggs, I can't remember a single time he said, "I didn't have it tonight. This one is on me"

Trading Dubnyk while Smith was in the middle of a giant funk because we had "to get Smith going. He's our guy" was the turning point.

Like his coach, he just stayed too long. Didn't mind the dumb slashes. Could accept the dumb turnovers and wandering as part of the package. But the glaring and acting like he was a franchise goalie who never had a bad game wore very thin. And I hated the diving.

Glad he's someone else's problem now

Great breakdown. Loved his competitivness at times. Loved watching him try to get into the fight in the battle of Alberta this season too. But man he is a headache more than he is a hero.

So I'ma come right out and say it - when Seattle joins the league, I want to see this playoff format adopted full time. Shorten the regular season to 76 games (28 in the division, each team 2 and 2, then 48 for everyone else, 24 other teams go home and home). And do this format exactly, except give the top four teams a bye week to rest/get healthy in lieu of a round robin. MAYBE make the qualifiers best of 3.

You keep the integrity of the regular season and combine both what makes the NHL playoffs great AND inject this "big upset" element that appeals with March Madness (hell it'd be hockeys own March madness, it'd be competing with it for ratings). Plus, we'd have fans back by then.

I think the NHL is learning something here - there's more potential to tap the hunger for playoff hockey.

AM would be much happier in a less media intense market I think ;)

As I said before if I was Coyote GM I would be on the phone with Dubas with a kitchen sink offer as soon as the Leafs exit the playoffs. Make them really think hard.
