Around the NHL 2025 playoff edition

Its interestin how it played out.
Sullivan had nothing from aging leaders of pens and there were no young players who panned out under him. So its a question - ll of good and young and talented rangers are ready enough to play under Sullivan, question number two - do rangers vets have something in the tank or they are already aging.
Anyway its a good opportunity for Rangers to maximize their window but I believe they should change a part of their younger core for more experienced players, especially on defensive side. Shestyorkin in his best shape will help - Sullivan never had high level goalie.
I think Murray may have been a high level goalie, but his peak as a high level goalie was maybe the shortest ever. Much shorter than Tim Thomas. Some claim he may have lost interest after the death of his father, but it was definitely injuries IMO.

I’m gonna say it was higher than Jim Carey because he did win two cups (1.5 as starter) to Carey’s zero.

But yeah, Sullivan hasn’t had great goalies other than the early, very short peak of Murray.

I’m happy with Keefe and we are better off, but my god it seems like Fitzgerald strikes out on every “big target” he goes after.

He probably didn't want to leave the Pens yet and there's nothing you can do in that situation. If Sullivan thinks the Rags are the team to leave for, more power to him lol.

Everything we read last year made it seem like Sullivan wanted to come here and to get out of his contract. Now it’s we made a play for him but he didn’t wanna leave yet?

He probably knew he was getting the Rangers job. I knew it almost two years ago. This was the most predictable hire ever.
This is like JT Miller 2.0, the guy everyone was annoyed we didn’t get only to find out he had no intention of coming here to begin with

If the Rangers think Sullivan can save them with that roster then godspeed to them.
I think they’re definitely going to make changes, the Panarin situation is up in the air to put it mildly, doesn’t seem like Kreider is long for that world and they always find someone to take their crappy contracts and their money anyway. Whether those changes will be for the better is 50-50 cause of Drury but they sometimes fall into good players who finagle their way there.

Murray was very good but Shestyorkin has Hat trophy level season with top-10 SV% in history in that season. And he was a foundation of two ECFs for rangers. Its a different level. And most of the seasons Shestyorkin played he faced quite raw defensive roster behind him. Sullivan could ask a couple of trades for better defensemen from Drury if they want to maximize their chances.

Someone will take Zib but it's going to cost them dearly. Nobody will want to deal with Panarin at this point in his career, if he was 29 then someone absolutely would but I can't see many takers. That defense needs to be completely overhauled with the exception of Fox.

Not to mention that Shesterkin contract will handcuff them for a decade. I would not want to be the Rangers right now.

He already said at exit interviews that he has a NMC for a reason and he's going to use it to stay in NYC.

The thing with that is you can shit on Zibanejad but you still need to find players elsewhere who can produce. Are they going to pray that McDavid wants out of Edmonton? Their best chance was a Kings sweep or Kings in 5 series, he's probably going to extend now if they have another deep run.

Mika isn't leaving the Rangers and he has hinted he'll make full use of his NMC to stay put. Panarin also has a NMC, I believe, and on top of that he's a PR liability right now. I think Kreider has the best chance to be dealt from that veteran core, but he's also been playing with a major injury for a few months now and he's not as in demand as he might have been a season or two ago.

Regardless, Sullivan isn't doing much with that roster. I expect a bounceback form the Rangers next season, enough to make a wild card spot, but they're really not that good and stand to get worse if Drury does the wrong moves this offseason. K'Andre Miller, in particular, is a potential deal that has a very strong chance of blowing up in their faces down the line. Sure, he makes extremely stupid plays at times, but he's athletically gifted. And I think the "he's got nothing between the ears" line is complete BS. You don't learn to play defenseman at the age of 14 if you're stupid.

I don’t see how it’s striking out

Sullivan was still under contract and the penguins never granted permission to speak with him.

Either way Mike Sullivan is pretty over rated. Won two cups with a prime Crosby,Malkin etc

Missed playoffs the last three years with one of the years being they only had to beat the bottom feeding hawks to get in. Before that 4 straight first round exits.

Not to mention the 4 nations debacle

Hoping this is more indicative of them doing their research than it is who they really wanted. Sullivan is a bit of a hack who was propped up by two of the generation’s best and he is an old-head stylistically

With every passing day I do wonder if Fitzgerald is too old-head himself in how he thinks and who trained him lol
