Watching highlights last night, Danton Mateychuk all over the ice. The Jackets might have the best LD in the league with Werenski, Provorov and him, makes you wonder if they don't try to make the playoffs with all the adversity they've been through.
I thought they were already wildcard

Four Nations thread is closed so I'm putting this here. It's a recent quote from Morrissey, explaining why he told the coaches he couldn't play in the "biggest game of (his) life".

“I was beyond disappointed, couldn’t put into words, the feeling of things happening the way it did before the final. Just bad timing, I suppose ...To me, that was the biggest game of my life and I didn’t want to miss that game. It was crushing, but at the same time, when we were at the rink sitting there and things weren’t improving, it would have been selfish of me to go out there and hurt the team."

Contrast this to M Tkachuk, clearly hurt but taking up room on the bench that could have been used by another player, conflating his own desires with the best interests of his team.

This is an important distinction and says something about the players but also, arguably, about different cultures. Morrissey's are the words of a mature player who put the team/country first, in words and actions.

Vancouver losing 2 in a row out of the break has made the race a little closer.

You are not wrong in your contrast of M. Tkachuk and J. Morrissey. I will add that it takes a shyte load of intelligence to "be mature", which may be another significant difference between the two players.

It's not super important but nothing wrong with rewarding the players for this incredible regular season they are having.
No, not important at all.
It just doesn't matter at all to me one way or the other.
Not many President's trophy winners go on to win the cup.

Pretty sure that is a myth, only because everyone remembers the big, shocking first round collapses when they happen.

I had heard something like the President’s Trophy winner wins the Cup about 20% of the time, which is much better than the standard 6% (1/16). Comparable to the bottom seeds’ odds of winning the draft lottery. Obviously, they don’t always win it, but they have the best odds of any one team.

Also found this on Reddit from someone a few years ago who seemingly did the math:

So obviously winning the President’s Trophy isn’t a super big deal, it still signifies your team is the best in the league, and it seems that the best team has a higher chance of winning the Cup relative to others.

Seriously. It’s like the Canucks don’t even want to lose to us in 5 games in the first round.
I was gonna say, after people's talk about the Jets' being chokers in the playoffs. THIS is shaping up to be the year where a 1st round loss would be a real choke. Not to the Avs who had essentially the same number of points, or coming in as the 2nd Wild Card against the 1st seed Golden Knights.
