Chevy can pull the wool over his eyes once again by dangling Barlow, Heinola, Gustafsson and Iafallo (cap purposes)

*Obviously I don’t believe this would ever happen.
Chevy: “Hey the Pens suck and Dubas is a dumbass. Wanna bring the Cup to a city who hasn’t won yet and a country that hasn’t seen the cup since the early 90’s?”

Crosby: “Hell yeah! Im finally ready to move out of Mario’s pool house. Only condition, I move into your cottage”.

If there is another team in the league I think Crosby would play for, it's with his buddy MacKinnon in Colorado.
Obviously not happening but the hypothetical of being the one to help bring the Stanley Cup back to a Canadian market could be alluring.

Keep hearing about this strength of schedule argument for other teams being ranked higher than Winnipeg in various power rankings. Looked at the standings and removed games played against teams that as of Nov 13 have less points than games played. Did this super quick and didn't double check so not guarantying accuracy.

After a decent rookie season as a GM Barry Trotz has fallen off a cliff and is halfway to the ground Wile E Coyote style in his sophomore season. I look to their “top players” and I see:

Forsberg 30 (good)
O’Reilly 33
Josi 34
Marchessault 33
Nyquist 35
Stamkos 34

If I was a Preds fan I would be confused, and pissed off. Loading up on UFA aging skilled wingers to make your team what exactly???

Just to old I think. I'm not really sure Trotz quite knows what he's doing. He made a big splash in FA on old players. Like you said in regards to ages but also the salary and terms left;

Forsberg 30 - Full NMC - $8.5m - 6 years of term left
Stamkos - 34 - Full NMC - $8m - 4 years of term left
Marchessault - 33 - 15 team NTC - $5.5m - 5 years of term left
O'Rielly - 33 - $4.5m - 3 years of term left
Nyquist - 35 - $3.18m - UFA this summer
Sissons - 30 - $2.85 - UFA this summer
Josi - 34 - $9m - Full NMC - 4 years of term left
Skjei - 30 - 15 team NTC - $7m - 7 years of term left
Schenn - 35 - $2.75m - 2 years of term left
Saros - 30 - $7.74m - Full NMC kicks in next year - 9 years of term left

That is a lot of older players with term he now has to deal with and already has 2 buyouts still on the books for another 4 seasons at least.

NHL Edge shows that they are one of the slowest teams in the league overall and are the worst team in the league defending off the rush as a result of how slow they are. They also clock in as one of the slowest teams in terms of overall shot speed and have a pretty bad shot heatmap meaning that not only do they throw mostly muffins at the net they aren't getting those shots off in high danger areas.

I think we are seeing the results of a team that is full of players who are in decline and are unlikely to be much better going forwards.

Based on this, Kupari line is our best line. 52nd best in the league.
You're including defensive pairings in there.

I think the team in general has also rebounded pretty heavily since the start of the season. I think the ENP line was rocking an xGF% in the mid 30s there for a while.

He is GM'ing just like you would expect a coach to do - favouring the vets like pretty much all coaches do.

He is not quite as screwed on cap space as your post would make it seem though. With a full roster, they have 1.5 mil now. Nyqvist's 3.2 goes to UFA and RyJo's 4 mil retained expires. That gives him ~8.7 mil before the expected cap increase and no projected big raises to come next season except Saros' 2.74 raise.

They have three 1sts and two 2nds in the next draft. Who will he sell at the TD and what more will he get for them? Probably not much that he will be able to move with those contracts.

Oh yeah cap wise they are fine but moving some of the contracts especially with the term and dollars owed is the real hill to climb.

They also have both of their buyout slots filled so he can't even retain on anyone without including a 3rd team, which means a portion of any kind of return goes to that team.

Trotz is in a bit of a pickle I think. He gambled on being the 2nd oldest team in the league and it's looking bad right now.

Season-wide regression shows the Jets above a 50% expected goal share. Considering where they started means that they've been playing a lot better than their start indicated. They also rocked a PDO of 107. I don't know what it is now, but they must be playing far closer to the record than below it.
