McGroarty having about as bad a start to his pro career as you could have. One assist and a -6 in 8 games on a team that has a winning record in the AHL.

His about-face on Winnipeg might actually be a blessing in disguise. Not only do we not want anyone like that anywhere close to our locker room but we may end up with the better player in the long run.

Couldn't happen to a better person.

Rutger first AHL goal tonight.

Yeah, not saying he's not gonna be a good player but in hindsight, demands for an NHL role don't make sense. He might need another season's worth of seasoning in the AHL.

I will say whenever I watched Michigan games last season Nazar always impressed me more eventhough his counting stats weren't close to Rutger's. He would drive play, be more actively involved in the transition game and beat guys one on one with his skating, so it doesn't surprise me that much that his game has translated much more smoothly to the pro leagues.

Spirits are high over on the Avs board

Washington Capitals, 8 goals tonight, PLD 1 assist. Has only 1 goal on the season, that too an EN goal. By most accounts from Caps fans he's having a decent season and his advanced stats are respectable but he seems to have lost all his offense. Seems to be becoming more a Lowry type 2C/high-end 3C than the 1C many here thought him to be.

Fabbro claimed by CBus. Dumb move by the Preds. I bet there were a bunch of teams that put in a claim on him. I recall there were some here pretty high on him in his draft year...

There coach would rather use an ancient Luke Schenn. The Preds have made some odd calls with some solid players. Most Pred fans loved his game with Josi either last year or the year before. Be all accounts he's a solid number 4 defensive dmen that can make a breakout pass.

A very useful player to throw away for nothing, much like they did with Toivenen. They are an org that may need to look at their procurement process. None of their recent picks have been able to really contribute for then, but many go on to contribute on their second teams.

Them dealing Niederraiter was a dumb move too

After a decent rookie season as a GM Barry Trotz has fallen off a cliff and is halfway to the ground Wile E Coyote style in his sophomore season. I look to their “top players” and I see:

Forsberg 30 (good)
O’Reilly 33
Josi 34
Marchessault 33
Nyquist 35
Stamkos 34

If I was a Preds fan I would be confused, and pissed off. Loading up on UFA aging skilled wingers to make your team what exactly???

I think the luster of Trotz has faded away, his moves in the offseason have not worked out so far this year and they are last in the division. Now it's still early in the season but the Preds have a lot of work to do in the next 2 months or they could find themselves in a deep hole.

Almost unbelievably, they are last in the Conf and 2nd last in the league. They are only 1 pt better than Mtl. OTOH, they are 5-4-1 in their last 10 so might be starting to gel. How far can they recover in the next month?
